The SKF 33209 tapered roller bearing accommodates combined radial and axial loads and has compact dimensions of 45 × 85 × 32 mm.
The 33209 tapered roller bearing is a single-row roller bearing in a standard open design, which accommodates high radial forces in combination with axial forces acting in one direction. SKF manufactures this complete tapered roller bearing in the Explorer design with the standard tolerance class P0/PN or ABEC 1. With a bore of 45 mm, an outside diameter of 85 mm and a width of 32 mm, the component fits into standardised housing fits. The inner ring with roller cage and the outer ring can be fitted separately.
Due to the line contact between the tapered rollers and the raceways, the bearing can withstand high loads. The roller bearing is used in mechanical designs subject to combined loads, where shafts must be guided precisely both radially and axially. As single-row designs, by their very nature, can only accommodate axial forces in one direction, they are usually fitted in pairs in an O or X arrangement with a second bearing positioned opposite. This allows for precise adjustment of the desired bearing clearance during operation.
This bearing features a dimensionally stable sheet steel cage, which guides the tapered rollers evenly and promotes the flow of lubricant. The permissible operating temperature range extends from –30 to +120 degrees Celsius, making the bearing suitable for demanding industrial thermal environments. The SKF Explorer design features an optimised surface finish on the raceways. During assembly, you can precisely adjust the required preload or operating clearance by adjusting the axial alignment of the two rings.
With an inner diameter of 45 mm, an outer diameter of 85 mm and a total width of 32 mm, the bearing complies with standardised dimensions. These values refer to the complete bearing assembly, comprising the inner ring, roller set and corresponding outer ring.
Due to its design, this single-row bearing can accommodate high radial loads as well as axial loads from one direction. The angle of the raceway allows the tapered rollers to transmit the combined forces efficiently. For axial forces acting in both directions, fit a second tapered roller bearing in a mirror-image configuration opposite the first.
The specified temperature range is from -30 to +120 degrees Celsius. Within these limits, the rings and the sheet steel cage retain their dimensional stability and retain their shape. Select a lubricant suitable for the prevailing operating temperatures at the respective bearing location.
The sheet steel cage maintains a uniform spacing between the tapered rollers and prevents direct contact between the rolling elements. This reduces friction and ensures an even load distribution across the inner ring raceway. Furthermore, the cage is resistant to standard lubricants within the specified temperature range.
The bearing is designed to be dismantled. The inner ring, together with the roller cage, forms a single unit, whilst the outer ring can be removed without a flange. This allows you to fit the inner and outer rings separately into the housing or onto the shaft, which simplifies assembly.
The P0/PN tolerance class, comparable to ABEC 1, denotes the standard tolerance class for industrial roller bearings. It defines standardised dimensional, geometric and running accuracies. This precision class is entirely sufficient for the vast majority of industrial applications in mechanical engineering and drive technology.
