The FAG 30317 tapered roller bearing, with its main dimensions of 85 × 180 × 44.5 mm, is designed to withstand high radial loads as well as unilateral axial loads in mechanical engineering applications.
This single-row tapered roller bearing 30317 is designed as a complete rolling bearing and consists of an inner ring with a roller cage and the corresponding outer ring. Thanks to the tapered arrangement of the rolling elements, the design effectively transfers combined forces to the surrounding structure. The component is used where compact dimensions combined with high load-carrying capacity are required. The integrated sheet steel cage guides the rolling elements and is suitable for operating temperatures ranging from -30 to +120 degrees.
This 30317 tapered roller bearing is designed for applications where strong radial forces and single-sided axial forces occur simultaneously. As a single tapered roller bearing can only accommodate axial loads in one direction, in practice they are usually fitted in pairs, facing each other. Such arrangements provide precise guidance of the shaft as well as high rigidity of the entire bearing assembly under load.
The bearing is manufactured to tolerance class P0/PN, which corresponds to ABEC 1 and represents the standard tolerance for industrial applications. As the inner ring with roller cage and the outer ring can be fitted separately, installation in the housing and on the shaft with a bore diameter of 85 mm can be carried out independently. To ensure even contact across all rollers, the precise adjustment of the axial bearing clearance during assembly is crucial.
The bearing has an inner diameter of 85 mm, an outer diameter of 180 mm and a total width of 44.5 mm. These metric dimensions determine the required installation space on the shaft and in the housing bore for a precise fit.
The permissible operating range is from -30 to +120 degrees. This range is limited by the thermal dimensional stability of the components and the lubricant. The integrated sheet steel cage can withstand this temperature range without compromising mechanical stability.
P0 or PN refers to the standard tolerance class in the rolling bearing sector, comparable to ABEC 1. It defines the permissible dimensional, geometric and running accuracies for normal industrial precision requirements, as demanded in most mechanical engineering applications.
Single-row tapered roller bearings are, by design, not self-retaining. The outer ring can be fitted separately from the inner ring, with the roller set pre-assembled. This facilitates step-by-step assembly and simplifies checks on the bearing seat prior to final commissioning.
The sheet steel cage maintains a uniform spacing between the tapered rollers and prevents adjacent rolling elements from rubbing against one another. It combines a low component weight with high temperature resistance and helps to ensure that the rollers run with minimal vibration.
