The SKF 30302 tapered roller bearing, measuring 15 × 42 × 14.25 mm, accommodates combined radial and axial loads in a single-row design.
This single-row 30302 tapered roller bearing consists, as a complete bearing, of an inner ring with a set of rollers and the matching outer ring. The design is particularly suitable for combined loads where radial forces act simultaneously with axial forces from a single direction. In SKF’s Explorer version, the roller bearing is characterised by a precisely matched internal geometry. As a result, the design promotes the formation of a clean lubricating film on the roller end faces and raceways during operation.
The 30302 tapered roller bearing is primarily used where high radial forces are combined with axial forces acting from one side. As a single-row bearing can only accommodate axial forces in one direction, it is usually fitted in pairs in mechanical assemblies in an X or O arrangement, mirroring a second bearing. With a shaft bore of 15 mm and an outer diameter of 42 mm, this compact roller bearing offers high rigidity in a confined space.
The integrated sheet steel cage guides the tapered rolling elements evenly and keeps them spaced apart, which reduces friction and heat build-up. With tolerance class P0/PN (corresponding to ABEC 1), the component meets the standard accuracy requirements for industrial mechanical engineering. The permissible temperature range is from -30 to +120 degrees Celsius. As the inner ring, including the roller cage, and the outer ring can be fitted separately, the bearing clearance can be precisely adjusted during installation by means of back-alignment.
The bearing has an inner diameter of 15 mm, an outer diameter of 42 mm and a total width of 14.25 mm. As a complete tapered roller bearing, the scope of supply includes both the inner ring with roller set and the matching outer ring.
The single-row tapered roller bearing accommodates simultaneous radial and axial forces. However, due to the tapered raceways, the design transmits axial forces in only one direction. To accommodate axial loads acting in both directions, a second tapered roller bearing is fitted in the design in a mirror-image configuration as a counter bearing and aligned axially.
The permissible temperature range for this tapered roller bearing is between -30 and +120 degrees Celsius. Within this range, the dimensional stability of the rings and the functionality of the sheet steel cage are maintained. A lubricant approved for the respective operating temperature is also essential for long-term operation.
With tolerance class P0 (also known as standard tolerance PN or ABEC 1), the rolling bearing meets the standard accuracy requirements for dimensional and concentricity tolerances in industrial mechanical engineering. It is sufficient for general applications in mechanical engineering where there are no heightened requirements for high precision.
Tapered roller bearings are not designed to be self-retaining. The outer ring can be easily separated from the inner ring and the roller cage guided within it. This feature makes installation considerably easier, as you can fit both rings separately onto the shaft or into the housing.
The sheet steel cage maintains a uniform spacing between the tapered rollers and prevents direct contact between the rolling elements. This reduces friction and wear. Sheet steel offers high strength combined with low weight and can easily withstand lubricants and operating temperatures of up to +120 degrees Celsius.
