The FAG 23936 -S-MB self-aligning roller bearing, with a 180 mm bore and a brass cage, offers high load-carrying capacity for demanding industrial applications.
The 23936 -S-MB self-aligning roller bearing accommodates high radial loads as well as simultaneously acting axial forces in both directions. Thanks to the hollow-spherical outer ring raceway, the design automatically compensates for misalignment and shaft deflection during operation. This open roller bearing, made from standard bearing steel 100Cr6, has the main dimensions 180 x 250 x 52 mm. It is designed for operating temperatures ranging from –30 to +200 degrees Celsius and can be relubricated as required whilst installed.
Designs featuring long shafts or flexible housing assemblies benefit from this bearing’s angular-contact design. Should housing misalignment or load-induced deflection occur, the roller set adjusts to match the outer ring raceway. The component compensates for angular misalignment between the shaft and housing without any measurable increase in friction. Thanks to its open design, users can select the appropriate lubricant themselves, depending on the ambient conditions and the rotational speeds at the respective bearing location.
The version with a brass cage (identified by the suffix MB) guides the rolling elements precisely through the load zone. The solid brass material withstands high accelerations and vibrations, and mechanically dampens shock loads. Furthermore, the material exhibits high dimensional stability even at operating temperatures of up to +200 degrees Celsius. To ensure a uniform supply of grease or lubricating oil, the outer ring is fitted as standard with a circumferential lubrication groove and radial lubrication holes.
The bearing has an internal diameter of 180 mm, an external diameter of 250 mm and a width of 52 mm. Before installation, carefully check the available installation space on the shaft and in the housing bore, as well as the mounting dimensions of the surrounding components.
The suffix ‘MB’ denotes a solid brass cage. This cage material is characterised by high mechanical strength and resistance to vibration. It is therefore suitable for bearings that are subjected to regular shock loads or rapid changes in speed.
The outer ring of the bearing features an integrated lubrication groove and radial lubrication holes. These channels allow grease or lubricating oil to be applied directly between the rows of rollers. This ensures an even distribution of lubricant across all contact surfaces of the rolling elements.
The component is manufactured with standard radial bearing clearance. This standard bearing clearance is intended for normal operating temperatures and typical fit selections for both the shaft and the housing. It does not require any specific adjustments to the radial clearance when designing the fits.
The permissible temperature range is from -30 to +200 degrees Celsius. The 100Cr6 roller bearing steel and the brass cage retain their dimensional stability across this wide temperature range. Always select the lubricant to suit the actual operating temperature at the bearing location.
The roller bearing is manufactured to tolerance class P0 or PN and ABEC 1. This denotes the defined standard tolerance class for industrial roller bearings. It meets the requirements of mechanical engineering in terms of dimensional accuracy and concentricity.
