The SKF 23234 CC/C3W33 spherical roller bearing features a 170 mm bore, increased C3 clearance and compensates for misalignment under heavy radial loads.
The SKF 23234 CC/C3W33 self-aligning roller bearing is an open roller bearing designed for demanding bearing applications in mechanical and plant engineering. With key dimensions of a 170 mm bore diameter, 310 mm outer diameter and 110 mm width, this bearing type can withstand very high radial forces whilst also tolerating axial loads in both directions. Manufactured from standard roller bearing steel (100Cr6) with a sheet steel cage, this design is rated for operating temperatures ranging from –30 to +200 degrees.
This self-aligning roller bearing is primarily used in applications involving high radial loads combined with misalignment or shaft deflection. Thanks to the hollow spherical raceway in the outer ring, the bearing automatically adjusts to angular misalignments between the shaft and housing. This prevents the build-up of excessive edge stresses. The open design allows for direct relubrication via the existing lubrication groove in the outer ring whilst the bearing is in operation.
The version with bearing clearance class C3 has increased radial clearance compared with standard clearance. This counteracts the risk of the rolling elements becoming jammed if operational heating or tight fits cause the inner ring to expand. The W33 feature provides the outer ring with an integrated lubrication groove with lubrication holes. This facilitates targeted relubrication and distributes the lubricant evenly across the roller sets. The running accuracy to tolerance class P5 also ensures smooth, low-vibration operation.
The bearing has an internal diameter (bore) of 170 mm, an external diameter of 310 mm and a width of 110 mm. These standardised key dimensions enable precise fitting into corresponding bearing housings and housing assemblies used in mechanical engineering.
The suffix CC denotes the standardised version of the bearing with a sheet steel cage. This design guides the rolling elements precisely and ensures low-friction operation under high loads during use.
The designation C3 indicates an increased radial bearing clearance compared with the standard version. This additional radial clearance serves as a reserve, as temperature differences between the rotating shaft and the housing, as well as tight fits, noticeably reduce the operating clearance during operation.
Feature W33 refers to a lubrication groove and radial lubrication holes in the outer ring of the bearing. This allows lubricant to be fed directly into the bearing interior from the outside. The lubricant thus reaches the space between the rows of rollers immediately, helping to ensure even distribution.
The 23234 CC/C3W33 spherical roller bearing is designed for a temperature range of -30 to +200 degrees. The 100Cr6 rolling-bearing steel used, as well as the sheet steel cage, retain their dimensional stability and strength within this range, provided that the lubricant used is suitable for the relevant temperature.
Whilst the dimensional accuracy of this bearing complies with the standard tolerance class PN, its running accuracy is classified in the tighter P5 class. This means lower radial and axial runout deviations of the rings, which contributes to increased runout precision and smoother operation.
