The SKF 23224 CC/W33 spherical roller bearing (120x215x76 mm) accommodates heavy combined loads and compensates for misalignment during operation.
The SKF 23224 CC/W33 self-aligning roller bearing is an open roller bearing designed for demanding industrial applications. With a bore of 120 mm, an outer diameter of 215 mm and a width of 76 mm, this bearing accommodates high radial and, at the same time, axial forces. Manufactured from standard roller bearing steel (100Cr6), this design features a sheet steel cage. The permissible temperature range is from –30 to +200 degrees.
Design engineers and maintenance technicians prefer to use this bearing in heavy-duty applications where shaft deflection or misalignment may occur. Thanks to the hollow-spherical outer ring raceway, the barrel-shaped rollers self-align, thereby reducing edge stresses. Typical applications can be found in general mechanical engineering and in highly stressed shaft bearings. The standard radial clearance ensures balanced running behaviour during normal operation for standard fits.
These additional designations provide information about the design features of this model. The designation W33 indicates a circumferential lubrication groove with holes in the outer ring, through which lubricant is fed directly to the rolling elements. The abbreviation CC refers to window-type sheet steel cages and an inner ring without a guide ring to optimise friction. Whilst the dimensional accuracy corresponds to the standard class PN, the running accuracy P5 offers a tighter concentricity tolerance for low-vibration applications.
A double-row roller bearing with symmetrical barrel-shaped rollers, designed to accommodate high radial loads and axial loads in both directions. Thanks to the spherical outer ring raceway, the bearing automatically compensates for misalignment between the shaft and the housing without adversely affecting its load-carrying capacity.
The bearing has an inner diameter of 120 mm, an outer diameter of 215 mm and a total width of 76 mm. The dimensional accuracy of the bore and outer ring complies with the standard PN class.
The designation W33 refers to a lubrication groove machined into the outer circumference, featuring several lubrication holes. This design channels grease or lubricating oil directly between the two rows of rollers, making it easier to relubricate the unit whilst it is installed.
The bearing combines standard mounting dimensions with enhanced concentricity. The mounting dimensions for the shaft and housing comply with the standard PN tolerance class, whilst the internal running accuracy corresponds to the finer P5 class, which reduces vibrations during operation.
Thanks to the 100Cr6 material and the sheet steel cage, the open bearing can be used in a temperature range of -30 to +200 degrees. When selecting a lubricant, care must be taken to ensure that the grease or oil is suitable for the relevant operating temperature.
Open bearings do not have integrated sealing washers and are suitable for installation in enclosed housings with external sealing. This design facilitates regular lubricant replacement and reduces friction compared with units that are sealed by contact.
