The SKF 23148 CCK/W33 spherical roller bearing, measuring 240 × 400 × 128 mm and featuring a tapered bore, offers a robust solution for heavy-duty industrial applications.
The 23148 CCK/W33 self-aligning roller bearing is a double-row roller bearing designed for demanding industrial drives. It accommodates high radial loads as well as simultaneously acting axial forces in both directions. Thanks to its spherical outer ring raceway, the bearing automatically compensates for misalignment and shaft deflection during operation. This SKF product belongs to the Explorer series and is made from standard rolling-element bearing steel (100Cr6). The open design allows lubricants direct access to all functional surfaces of the roller set.
Design engineers primarily select the 23148 CCK/W33 self-aligning roller bearing for heavy-duty machine mountings where misalignment or elastic shaft deflections occur. Typical applications include heavy-duty industrial gearboxes and mounting points subject to combined loads. The rolling elements distribute loads evenly across the raceway, which helps to reduce friction. The sheet steel cage guides the rollers precisely and maintains the correct spacing between them.
The suffix ‘K’ refers to the tapered internal bore with a ratio of 1:12. This geometry allows the bearing to be mounted either directly onto a tapered shaft journal or, using clamping or withdrawal sleeves, onto smooth shafts. This enables the radial bearing clearance to be adjusted during press-fitting. The designation W33 indicates an annular lubrication groove with lubrication holes in the outer ring. This facilitates relubrication whilst the bearing is installed, as fresh lubricant is directed precisely into the interior.
This roller bearing combines a high radial load capacity with the ability to accommodate angular misalignment. It dynamically compensates for misalignment between the inner and outer rings. The CCK version features a sheet steel cage and a tapered bore. The bearing belongs to the SKF Explorer performance class.
The bearing has an internal diameter of 240 mm, an external diameter of 400 mm and a total width of 128 mm. These standardised dimensions allow it to be fitted in heavy-duty industrial applications with appropriately sized shafts.
The suffix W33 denotes a circumferential groove on the outer ring’s outer surface, combined with lubrication holes. Users can inject lubricant directly between the rows of rollers through these recesses, which helps to ensure an even supply to both raceways.
The tapered bore with a 1:12 taper allows for flexible mounting on the shaft. The bearing can be slid directly onto tapered seats or secured to cylindrical shafts using locking sleeves. Furthermore, the bearing play can be adjusted via the axial travel.
The spherical roller bearing is designed for ambient temperatures ranging from -30 to +200 degrees Celsius. The standard rolling-bearing steel (100Cr6) and the sheet steel cage are designed for operation within this range, provided that the selected lubricant is suitable for the temperature range.
The bearing has a dimensional accuracy of PN (standard tolerance) for its mounting dimensions. Tolerance class P5 applies to running accuracy. This results in lower runout errors on the raceways, which contributes to smoother running during operation.
