The SKF 23024 CC/W33 spherical roller bearing, measuring 120 × 180 × 46 mm, provides a robust bearing solution for heavy radial loads under shaft deflection.
The 23024 CC/W33 self-aligning roller bearing is an open, double-row roller bearing designed for demanding industrial applications. Its design automatically compensates for misalignment and elastic deflection of the shaft during operation. This bearing, made from 100Cr6 bearing steel, features a pressed sheet steel cage and is designed for an operating temperature range of –30 to +200 degrees. SKF manufactures this version in the Explorer performance class with standard radial clearance.
Design engineers primarily select this size for heavy-duty shaft mountings where high radial forces occur and misalignments need to be compensated for. Typical applications include industrial gearboxes and material handling systems. The integrated lubrication groove, together with lubrication holes in the outer ring (designation W33), allows lubricant to be applied directly into the interior of the roller rows. The open design permits operation with both grease and lubricating oil.
The CC version features window-type sheet steel cages and an inner ring without a guide ring, which reduces friction and aids the formation of a lubricating film. Whilst the dimensional accuracy corresponds to the standard PN class, the bearing has the tighter P5 tolerance class for running accuracy. This promotes smooth shaft rotation at higher speeds. During installation, care must be taken to ensure an external housing seal is fitted, as this is an open bearing without an integrated seal.
The bearing has an internal diameter of 120 mm, an external diameter of 180 mm and a width of 46 mm. With these standard dimensions, it fits onto corresponding shaft seats and into standard bearing housings.
The designation W33 refers to a ring-shaped lubrication groove with lubrication holes in the outer ring. This design facilitates relubrication during operation, as grease or lubricating oil is fed directly between the two rows of rollers via the bearing housing.
The bearing combines standard dimensional accuracy (PN) for the bore and outer diameter with enhanced running accuracy to Class P5. As a result, the bearing assembly achieves improved concentricity, which reduces vibrations during operation.
This roller bearing is manufactured with a standard radial clearance. This design is suitable for standard fit selections on shafts and housings, as well as for standard temperature differences between the inner and outer rings.
The bearing is designed for operating temperatures ranging from -30 to +200 degrees. Due to its open design without integrated sealing lips, it is primarily the chosen lubricant that determines the practical temperature limit during continuous operation.
As the bearing is designed without its own sealing washers, upstream housing seals must protect the component from dirt, moisture and dust. In addition, the housing seal keeps the lubricant within the bearing chamber.
