The SKF 22318 EK self-aligning roller bearing combines a tapered bore measuring 90x190x64 mm and automatically compensates for misalignment under heavy radial loads.
The 22318 EK self-aligning roller bearing is a double-row roller bearing designed for demanding bearing arrangements in mechanical and plant engineering. The open bearing, made from standard 100Cr6 bearing steel, has a bore of 90 mm, an outer diameter of 190 mm and a width of 64 mm. Two symmetrical rows of rollers on a common hollow-spherical outer ring raceway compensate for shaft deflection and misalignment. A dimensionally stable sheet steel cage guides the roller sets reliably within a temperature range of -30 to +200 degrees.
This bearing is particularly suitable for heavy-duty industrial applications involving high radial forces and axial loads acting in both directions. Typical applications include demanding shaft mountings in mechanical engineering where elastic deflection may occur. Thanks to the free adjustability of the roller rows in the outer ring, the component continuously compensates for angular misalignment during operation. This prevents edge loading and promotes an even load distribution across the entire raceway width.
The tapered bore, with a taper ratio of 1:12, enables precise mounting directly onto tapered shaft seats or, using clamping and withdrawal sleeves, onto cylindrical shafts. You can adjust the remaining bearing clearance in a controlled manner during installation via the axial displacement travel. To ensure an effective supply of lubricant, the outer ring features a circumferential lubrication groove with lubrication holes. Furthermore, the increased running accuracy of P5, combined with standard dimensional accuracy of PN, promotes low-vibration concentricity during continuous operation.
Two rows of barrel-shaped rolling elements run in a shared spherical outer ring raceway, which reliably compensates for angular misalignment and shaft deflection during operation. The bearing, made from 100Cr6 rolling bearing steel, features a sheet steel cage, has standard radial clearance and is suitable for a wide temperature range from -30 to +200 degrees.
The suffix ‘K’ indicates a tapered internal bore with a taper ratio of 1:12. This bore shape allows for a secure fit on tapered shaft journals or flexible mounting on smooth shafts using a clamping or withdrawal sleeve. When slid onto the taper, the operational radial clearance can be precisely adjusted.
The bearing has an internal diameter of 90 mm, an external diameter of 190 mm and a total width of 64 mm. This wide cross-section is specifically designed to accommodate particularly high radial and combined axial forces.
The outer ring features a milled lubrication groove and lubrication holes. Fresh lubricant enters directly through these openings into the interior of the bearing, between the two sets of rollers. As the bearing is of an open design, the surrounding housing structure must be fitted with suitable external seals to prevent the ingress of dirt.
The dimensional accuracy class PN corresponds to the standard tolerances for connection dimensions such as bore and outer diameter. Running accuracy in tolerance class P5, on the other hand, entails tighter tolerances with regard to concentricity and parallelism. This ensures reduced vibrations and smooth rolling behaviour at high speeds.
The unit is designed for operating temperatures ranging from -30 to +200 degrees. The dimensional stability of the standard roller bearing steel and the sheet steel cage is maintained within this range. For operation close to the limit values, simply select a lubricant with an approved temperature range that is suitable for these conditions.
