The SKF 22316 E self-aligning roller bearing, with an 80 mm bore, 170 mm outer diameter and 58 mm width, can accommodate high radial and axial loads.
The SKF 22316 E self-aligning roller bearing is a double-row roller bearing in the Explorer performance class, designed for demanding industrial applications. Manufactured from standard rolling-bearing steel (100Cr6), this design combines a cylindrical 80 mm bore with a sheet steel cage. The outer ring’s spherical raceway automatically compensates for misalignment and shaft deflection during operation. As an open bearing, it can be flexibly integrated into oil- or grease-lubricated assemblies.
Design engineers and maintenance personnel select this design primarily for bearing arrangements subject to very high radial forces and axial forces acting from both sides. Typical applications include heavy-duty mechanical assemblies and shaft bearings where deflection or misalignment is to be expected. As the bearing compensates for static and dynamic misalignments between the inner and outer rings, it counteracts impermissible edge stresses on the roller bodies should shafts deform elastically under load.
Lubricant is fed directly between the rows of rollers via the integrated lubrication groove with lubrication holes in the outer ring. This facilitates relubrication whilst the bearing is installed. Whilst the dimensional accuracy complies with standard class PN, the bearing offers increased running accuracy in accordance with tolerance class P5. This reduced radial runout error ensures smooth running at operating temperatures ranging from –30 to +200 degrees Celsius.
This roller bearing has an inner diameter of 80 mm, an outer diameter of 170 mm and a total width of 58 mm. These dimensions are decisive for determining the fit on the shaft and in the housing seat.
The bearing has a standard radial clearance. This standard clearance is suitable for typical fit selections and normal operating temperatures, where there is no excessive heating of the shaft relative to the housing.
The outer ring is fitted with a lubrication groove and radial lubrication holes. This allows grease or lubricating oil to be fed directly into the bearing through the housing, which helps to ensure an even supply to both rows of rolling elements.
The dimensional accuracy complies with tolerance class PN (normal tolerance), which means that standard bearing seats can be used. The running accuracy is specified to tolerance class P5, which implies tighter tolerances for concentricity and parallelism than the standard class.
The bearing is designed for operating temperatures ranging from -30 to +200 degrees Celsius. The 100Cr6 material and the sheet steel cage retain their dimensional stability within this temperature range, provided that the selected lubricant is suitable for the respective temperature.
As an open bearing without integrated sealing washers, it offers complete flexibility in the choice of external sealing systems, such as labyrinth seals or shaft seals. Furthermore, the open design allows for direct circulation of circulating oil or free grease distribution within the housing.
