The SKF 22222 E self-aligning roller bearing (110x200x53 mm) compensates for misalignment and accommodates high radial and combined loads in mechanical engineering.
The SKF 22222 E self-aligning roller bearing is a robust rolling bearing designed for demanding industrial applications. With key dimensions of 110 mm bore diameter, 200 mm outer diameter and 53 mm width, this bearing accommodates high radial and axial forces. Thanks to its barrel-shaped rollers, the double-row bearing compensates for misalignment and shaft deflection during operation. Manufactured from tried-and-tested 100Cr6 rolling bearing steel, this open bearing offers high dimensional stability for operating temperatures ranging from -30 to +200 degrees.
This bearing accommodates heavy radial loads as well as simultaneously acting axial forces and compensates for misalignment between the shaft and housing. When load-bearing shafts deflect elastically under load, the barrel-shaped rollers tilt within the spherical outer ring without edge stresses. A robust sheet-steel cage guides the rows of rollers stably and maintains the correct spacing between the rolling elements. As an unsealed bearing, this version is used in housing designs with existing oil or grease lubrication.
The outer ring is fitted with a circumferential lubrication groove and lubrication holes. When the bearing is installed, fresh lubricant enters directly between the two rows of rolling elements via these openings. This design combines dimensional accuracy (PN) at the mounting surfaces with enhanced running accuracy to Class P5. This tighter running tolerance supports low-vibration concentricity of rotating shafts with normal radial bearing clearance. An external housing seal protects the open bearing location from the ingress of dirt.
With a bore diameter of 110 mm, an outside diameter of 200 mm and a width of 53 mm, the bearing has standardised main dimensions. These dimensions define the required installation space within the machine housing. Before installation, it is advisable to check the fits on the shaft and the housing bore to ensure that the bearing rings sit precisely in place.
The bearing features an integrated circumferential groove and lubrication holes in the outer ring for relubrication. You can use these channels to direct grease or lubricating oil precisely into the interior of the bearing, between the two rows of rollers. This simplifies routine maintenance whilst the bearing is in operation and helps to ensure even distribution of the lubricant.
In this version, the external connection dimensions, such as the bore and diameter, comply with the standard PN tolerance class. The internal running accuracy, however, is manufactured to the finer P5 class. This reduces the run-out of the rings, minimises vibrations during operation and ensures the smooth running of rotating shafts.
The roller bearing is designed for an operating temperature range of -30 to +200 degrees. The standard 100Cr6 rolling bearing steel used, as well as the sheet steel cage, retain their strength within this temperature range. Always ensure that the lubricant and external housing seals are suitable for the operating temperature.
As an open bearing, the spherical roller bearing has no integrated sealing washers. This design is used when the bearing housing is sealed by the surrounding machine casing, for example by means of radial shaft seals or labyrinth seals. Furthermore, the open design allows for unimpeded lubricant exchange in oil-bath or recirculating lubrication systems.
The Explorer class comprises SKF’s advanced self-aligning roller bearings, featuring optimised internal geometry and a refined surface finish on the raceways and rollers. This design reduces internal friction and minimises wear in the rolling contact, making the bearing suitable for high loads in continuous industrial operation.
