The SKF 22220 E/C3 spherical roller bearing, with a 100 mm bore, C3 clearance and lubrication groove, is designed to handle heavy radial loads.
This double-row 22220 E/C3 self-aligning roller bearing is suitable for applications where high radial forces act on the shaft. Thanks to the barrel-shaped rollers on the spherical outer ring raceway, the bearing automatically compensates for misalignment and shaft deflection. As an open design made from standard rolling-bearing steel 100Cr6, the component is designed for a temperature range of -30 to +200 degrees.
Maintenance engineers and designers typically use this size in industrial applications involving heavy loads and shaft deflection. Wherever operational shaft deflections occur or there are manufacturing-related misalignments between the housing seats, the angular mobility helps to prevent edge stresses. The lubrication groove with lubrication holes in the outer ring facilitates relubrication whilst the bearing is in operation.
The design with bearing clearance class C3 has greater radial clearance than a standard bearing. This compensates for thermal expansion at operating temperatures up to +200 degrees, as well as fit allowances when mounting the inner ring onto the 100-mm shaft. At the same time, the increased running accuracy to tolerance class P5, combined with standard dimensional accuracy (PN), ensures low-vibration concentricity. The sheet steel cage guides the rolling elements precisely at varying speeds.
With an internal diameter of 100 mm, an external diameter of 180 mm and a total width of 46 mm, the bearing complies with the standardised main dimensions for this size.
C3 denotes an increased radial bearing clearance compared with the standard version. This additional clearance prevents the bearing from becoming stressed when operational heating or tight fits on the shaft and housing reduce the internal clearance.
As the bearing is manufactured without integrated seals, grease or lubricating oil is supplied externally. The lubrication groove, together with the lubrication holes in the outer ring, allows the lubricant to be applied precisely between the two rows of rollers.
This combines dimensional accuracy class PN with running accuracy class P5. This means that the external dimensions comply with the standard tolerances, whilst concentricity and parallelism are manufactured to the tighter P5 tolerance class, which contributes to smooth running.
The specified operating temperature range is from -30 to +200 degrees. It is important to select a lubricant suited to the respective operating temperature, as well as a suitable external housing seal.
A sheet steel cage is used to guide the roller elements. This design offers high strength combined with low weight and ensures stable guidance of the roller elements within the specified temperature range.
