The SKF 22219 EK/C3 self-aligning roller bearing is an open roller bearing measuring 95x170x43 mm, with a 1:12 tapered bore and increased C3 radial clearance.
The SKF 22219 EK/C3 self-aligning roller bearing, as a double-row roller bearing, accommodates heavy radial and axial loads whilst compensating for misalignment. With main dimensions of a 95 mm bore, 170 mm outer diameter and 43 mm width, this open bearing is made from standard 100Cr6 rolling bearing steel. A guided sheet steel cage maintains precise spacing between the sets of rollers. Thanks to its wide temperature range of –30 to +200 degrees, the component is suitable for demanding industrial environments with increased heat generation.
This bearing compensates for static and dynamic angular misalignments between the inner and outer rings, such as those caused by shaft deflection or misalignment. Typical applications include heavily loaded shaft mountings and industrial gearboxes with combined force directions in continuous industrial operation. Thanks to the integrated lubrication groove and lubrication holes in the outer ring, the lubricant can be fed directly into the interior. This reduces frictional resistance and promotes the formation of a uniform lubricating film under varying load conditions.
The tapered bore with a taper ratio of 1:12 allows for mounting directly onto a tapered shaft seat or, using a clamping or withdrawal sleeve, onto cylindrical shafts. In this process, the inner ring is pushed on axially, thereby specifically reducing the bearing clearance. The factory-set increased C3 radial bearing clearance compensates for both this press-fit and operational thermal expansion within a temperature range up to +200 degrees. The running accuracy to Class P5 ensures smooth running and minimal concentricity tolerances.
The bearing has a bore diameter of 95 mm, an outside diameter of 170 mm and a width of 43 mm. Due to its tapered design, the bore tapers at a ratio of 1:12. These standardised key dimensions allow for installation in standardised housings and the replacement of existing rolling bearings of the same size.
The designation combines two design features: the letter K stands for the tapered bore with a taper ratio of 1:12. The E denotes an optimised internal design with increased load-carrying capacity and features a robust sheet steel cage. In addition, the outer ring has a lubrication groove with holes for targeted relubrication.
Bearing clearance class C3 denotes a slightly increased radial bearing clearance compared with the standard version. This clearance is necessary because pressing onto tapered seats or clamping sleeves expands the inner ring and reduces the bearing clearance. Furthermore, the C3 clearance counteracts any straining of the bearing caused by operational temperature differences between the inner and outer rings.
A lubrication groove running around the outer ring, together with lubrication holes, directs grease or oil directly between the roller rings. As this is an open design without integrated sealing washers, the bearing requires external sealing of the housing as well as regular lubrication intervals tailored to the specific operating conditions.
This component combines standard dimensional accuracy (PN) with the tighter running accuracy of tolerance class P5. Whilst the mounting dimensions comply with the usual manufacturing tolerances to ensure trouble-free installation, tolerance class P5 offers lower run-out deviations. This promotes even load distribution and low-vibration running characteristics in demanding shaft-bearing arrangements.
Manufactured from 100Cr6 roller bearing steel with a sheet steel cage, this design is suitable for use in a temperature range from -30 to +200 degrees Celsius. At high operating temperatures, the C3 bearing clearance ensures that sufficient operating clearance is maintained despite thermal expansion of the material. The lubricant selected must also be specified for the relevant temperature range.
