The SKF 22217 EK spherical roller bearing, measuring 85x150x36 mm, compensates for misalignment and accommodates heavy radial loads as well as combined axial forces.
The 22217 EK self-aligning roller bearing is an open roller bearing made from case-hardened standard bearing steel (100Cr6) in the SKF Explorer performance class. This version features an 85 mm tapered inner bore, an outer diameter of 150 mm and a width of 36 mm. The design is suitable for applications where high radial forces act on the rotating shaft and misalignments need to be reliably compensated for during operation.
The double-row bearing is designed for high radial loads and simultaneously acting axial forces in both directions. Thanks to the common hollow-spherical raceway of the outer ring, the roller pack automatically adjusts itself in the event of shaft deflection or misalignment in the housing. This angular mobility reduces excessive edge stresses at the roller edges and promotes an even load distribution across the entire length of the rollers.
The tapered bore with a taper ratio of 1:12 allows for secure mounting on tapered shaft seats or, with the aid of suitable adapter sleeves, on cylindrical shafts. The standard radial clearance can be precisely adjusted during assembly by controlling the axial sliding distance of the inner ring. As this is an open bearing without integrated seals, the bearing housing requires an external seal. To ensure a uniform supply of grease or lubricating oil, the outer ring is fitted with a circumferential lubrication groove and lubrication holes. The integrated sheet steel cage guides the rolling elements reliably at operating temperatures ranging from –30 to +200 degrees Celsius.
With a bore of 85 mm, an outside diameter of 150 mm and a width of 36 mm, the bearing has standardised main dimensions. It is made of roller bearing steel (100Cr6) and has a sturdy sheet steel cage that keeps the rollers spaced apart even at varying speeds.
The suffix ‘K’ denotes a tapered internal bore with a standard taper of 1:12. This geometry allows for mounting on tapered shafts or smooth shafts using standard mounting and withdrawal sleeves. Furthermore, the standard radial bearing clearance can be precisely reduced when the bearing is pressed into place.
To facilitate relubrication within the housing, the outer ring features a circumferential groove with integrated lubrication holes. This allows fresh lubricant to flow directly into the interior of the bearing, between the two rows of rollers. As the bearing is manufactured in an open design, the surrounding bearing housing must be protected from dirt using suitable seals.
This roller bearing is approved for a temperature range of -30 to +200 degrees Celsius. Both the rolling elements and the rings, made from 100Cr6, and the temperature-resistant sheet steel cage retain their structural rigidity within this range, making the bearing suitable for thermally demanding industrial applications.
The bearing combines dimensional accuracy in accordance with standard class PN with increased running accuracy in accordance with tolerance class P5. The tighter P5 running tolerance reduces runout error during operation. This helps to minimise vibrations and ensures smooth, even running of the rolling bearing.
