The SKF 22208 EK self-aligning roller bearing has a 40 mm bore, an 80 mm outer diameter and compensates for misalignment under high radial loads.
The 22208 EK self-aligning roller bearing is a double-row roller bearing designed for heavy mechanical loads. The barrel-shaped rollers run on a spherical outer ring raceway, which automatically compensates for angular misalignment between the shaft and housing. Manufactured from standard 100Cr6 rolling bearing steel in SKF’s Explorer design, this rolling bearing features a standard radial clearance and a sheet steel cage. As an open design, the bearing allows for direct relubrication whilst the system is in operation.
This bearing design is specifically used in heavy-duty shaft mountings where significant radial forces and shaft-induced deflections occur. The lubrication groove with lubrication holes in the outer ring feeds lubricant directly via the surrounding bearing housing. As the component compensates for misalignment, it reduces edge pressures on the rolling elements and contributes to the smooth running of heavily loaded shaft assemblies.
The suffix ‘K’ denotes a tapered bore with a standard taper ratio of 1:12. This design facilitates mounting on tapered shaft seats or, using suitable mounting and withdrawal sleeves, on cylindrical shafts. During assembly, the remaining bearing clearance can be adjusted by sliding the bearing onto the shaft along its axial direction. In addition to the standard dimensional accuracy PN, the bearing offers increased running accuracy in accordance with tolerance class P5.
The bearing has a bore diameter of 40 mm, an outer diameter of 80 mm and a width of 23 mm. The bore is conical in shape and tapers at a taper ratio of 1:12.
The letter ‘E’ stands for an optimised internal design in SKF’s Explorer performance class. The letter ‘K’ indicates the tapered bore with a taper ratio of 1:12, which allows the bearing to be mounted using a collet or directly onto a tapered shaft journal.
This roller bearing, made from standard 100Cr6 bearing steel and featuring a sheet steel cage, is designed for operating temperatures between -30 °C and +200 °C. The thermal stability of the lubricant used is always the decisive factor for operation at these extreme temperatures.
The circumferential lubrication groove with integrated holes allows for relubrication from the outside directly into the roller set. This ensures that the lubricant is fed symmetrically between the two rows of rolling elements and is distributed precisely across the running surfaces.
In this version, the manufacturer combines two specifications: the external installation dimensions comply with the standard dimensional accuracy class PN, whilst the running accuracy meets the stricter tolerance class P5. This results in lower runout errors during operation when standardised connection dimensions are used.
In this open design, protection against contamination and the retention of the lubricant are achieved by means of external housing seals, as no integrated sealing washers are fitted. Sealing systems within the surrounding bearing housing are suitable for this purpose.
