Spherical Roller Bearings SKF 22212 E/C3

The SKF 22212 E/C3 open self-aligning roller bearing measures 60 × 110 × 28 mm, offers increased C3 clearance and compensates for misalignment during operation.

The SKF 22212 E/C3 self-aligning roller bearing is a double-row roller bearing designed for demanding industrial applications. It accommodates heavy radial loads as well as simultaneously acting axial forces in both directions. Thanks to its barrel-shaped rollers and the hollow-spherical outer ring raceway, the bearing automatically adjusts to shaft deflection. A sheet steel cage guides the rolling elements evenly, whilst the standard bearing steel 100Cr6 ensures the necessary dimensional stability.

In which installation situations does the 22212 E/C3 self-aligning roller bearing compensate for misalignment?

This roller bearing is suitable for bearing arrangements subject to high radial and axial loads, where shaft deflection or misalignment between the shaft and housing occurs. Thanks to its angularly adjustable design, the bearing automatically compensates for misalignment and reduces mechanical stresses. The permissible temperature range is between –30 and +200 degrees Celsius. As this is an open bearing, lubrication is supplied via the housing system.

What characteristics do C3 bearing clearance and P5 running accuracy offer?

The design with a slightly increased radial clearance (C3) prevents the rollers from seizing up should temperature differences arise between the inner and outer rings during operation, or should tight fits reduce the bearing clearance. In addition to the standard dimensional accuracy PN, this version is characterised by a tighter running accuracy in accordance with Class P5. To facilitate the supply of lubricant, the outer ring features an integrated lubrication groove with lubrication holes.

What are the dimensions of the 22212 E/C3 self-aligning roller bearing?

The dimensions are 60 mm internal diameter, 110 mm external diameter and 28 mm width. These key dimensions determine the installation space required. Before fitting, the mating surfaces on the shaft and in the bearing housing should be checked accordingly.

What does the designation ‘C3’ mean for this spherical roller bearing?

The suffix C3 indicates a slightly increased radial bearing clearance compared with the standard version. This increased clearance compensates for operational thermal expansion of the shaft and inner ring. Furthermore, even after press-fitting with tight fits, sufficient radial clearance is maintained to prevent the rolling elements from becoming jammed.

How is the open bearing 22212 E/C3 lubricated?

As this spherical roller bearing is manufactured without integrated sealing washers, it requires an external lubricant supply via the housing. The outer ring is fitted with a circumferential lubrication groove with holes as standard. These channels allow grease or lubricating oil to be applied precisely and evenly directly between the rows of rollers during maintenance.

What significance does tolerance class P5 have for running accuracy?

The bearing combines standard dimensional accuracy (PN) for the mounting dimensions with higher-precision running accuracy in accordance with Class P5. The tighter concentricity tolerance reduces radial runout and vibrations when the shaft is rotating. This promotes smooth operation at higher speeds and protects adjacent drive components from additional dynamic loads.

What material are bearing rings and cages made of?

The rings and rolling elements of this bearing are made from standard 100Cr6 rolling-bearing steel, which offers high compressive strength. A sheet steel cage, designed for a temperature range of -30 to +200 degrees, is used to guide and space the sets of rollers.
