The SKF 23232 CC/W33 spherical roller bearing combines key dimensions of 160 × 290 × 104 mm with enhanced P5 running accuracy for demanding industrial applications.
The SKF 23232 CC/W33 self-aligning roller bearing is designed for heavy radial and combined loads in mechanical engineering and plant construction. As an open, double-row roller bearing, it automatically compensates for misalignment and shaft deflection during operation. The 100Cr6 material gives the raceways high wear resistance. The standard version features a normal radial clearance and a guided sheet steel cage, which maintains the spacing between the sets of rollers even under varying operating conditions.
The 23232 CC/W33 self-aligning roller bearing is particularly recommended where high radial forces occur in conjunction with shock loads or housing displacement. Typical applications include heavy-duty industrial gearboxes and large machinery with varying load directions. Thanks to the crowned rollers and the spherical outer ring raceway, the bearing accommodates angular misalignment without edge pressure. The open design allows for flexible integration into existing lubrication systems using oil or grease.
The designation W33 denotes a circumferential lubrication groove with lubrication holes in the outer ring, through which fresh lubricant is fed directly between the rows of rollers. In conjunction with the increased running accuracy of class P5, this bearing reduces running deviations within the system. Whilst the mounting dimensions comply with standard accuracy PN, the tighter running tolerance ensures smooth concentricity. When designing the system, the permissible operating temperature range of -30 to +200 degrees must be taken into account.
The bearing has a bore of 160 mm, an outer diameter of 290 mm and a width of 104 mm. Manufactured from standard roller bearing steel 100Cr6, this design fits into standardised bearing housings. Before installation, it is advisable to check the housing shoulders and shaft seats for suitable transition radii.
The suffix W33 indicates a lubrication groove and lubrication holes in the outer ring of the bearing. This allows grease or lubricating oil to be applied directly between the rows of rolling elements. This design facilitates relubrication whilst the bearing is installed and promotes an even distribution of the lubricant during operation.
In this variant, the manufacturer combines standard dimensional tolerances (PN) with a tighter running accuracy in accordance with Class P5. The mounting dimensions comply with the standard, whilst concentricity and axial run-out exhibit smaller deviations. This promotes low-vibration operation in demanding shaft bearings or rotating assemblies.
The permissible operating temperature range is from -30 to +200 degrees Celsius. The integrated sheet steel cage and the 100Cr6 rolling bearing steel are designed to withstand thermal stresses within this range. At higher operating temperatures, care must be taken to ensure that the lubricant used has the appropriate resistance.
As an open bearing, this design does not require integrated sealing washers, which minimises frictional resistance. Protection against contamination is provided by the surrounding housing, for example via labyrinth seals or shaft seals. This design also allows for a free choice of lubricant and connection to a continuous circulating lubrication system.
The bearing is manufactured with standard radial clearance. This clearance covers standard fit combinations on cylindrical shafts. As the operating clearance is reduced following press-fitting onto the shaft seat due to the expansion of the inner ring, this should be taken into account during the design phase.
