The SKF 23140 CC/W33 self-aligning roller bearing measures 200 × 340 × 112 mm, has a W33 lubrication groove and compensates for shaft misalignment during operation.
The SKF 23140 CC/W33 self-aligning roller bearing is a double-row roller bearing designed for heavy radial and axial loads. With a bore of 200 mm, an outer diameter of 340 mm and a width of 112 mm, this open bearing is suitable for demanding industrial applications. Two rows of symmetrical rollers run on a common hollow-spherical outer ring raceway, allowing the bearing to adjust angularly in response to shaft deflection. The sheet steel cage guides the rolling elements at operating temperatures ranging from –30 to +200 degrees.
Design engineers and maintenance personnel primarily use this self-aligning roller bearing in heavy-duty industrial drives, industrial gearboxes and large machinery. It absorbs high radial forces whilst simultaneously withstanding axial forces acting from both sides. If high loads cause shaft deflection or misalignment between the shaft and housing, the bearing compensates for these angular misalignments without significant additional friction. As it does not feature integrated seals, this open roller bearing is particularly suitable for enclosed housing designs with external sealing and a central lubricant supply.
The suffix W33 denotes a circumferential lubrication groove with lubrication holes in the outer ring. This enables rapid relubrication directly into the roller set, which facilitates maintenance whilst the bearing is installed. Whilst the dimensional accuracy corresponds to the standard PN class, the bearing offers a tighter running accuracy in accordance with class P5 for low-vibration concentricity. As this component is manufactured with a standard radial bearing clearance, you should ensure the correct fit is selected during design to prevent any unacceptable play during operation.
This bearing has an inside diameter (bore) of 200 mm, an outside diameter of 340 mm and a height or width of 112 mm. It is a solid roller bearing made from standard roller bearing steel (100Cr6) with a cylindrical bore, designed to accommodate heavy loads on heavy-duty shafts.
The designation W33 indicates a lubrication groove machined into the outer ring, featuring lubrication holes. Fresh lubricant enters directly between the two rows of rollers into the bearing interior via these openings. This ensures even distribution of the lubricant, reduces frictional resistance and makes regular relubrication during operation considerably easier.
Designed as an open bearing, this version has no abiding or sealing discs. This ensures that the bearing remains thermally stable and can operate at high speeds without friction losses caused by elastomers. However, when installed in a system, this design requires a sealed bearing housing to prevent the ingress of dirt and ensure that the lubricant remains within the system.
In this bearing, the manufacturer combines the dimensional accuracy of the standard PN class with the increased running accuracy of the P5 class. Compared with standard bearings, the inner and outer rings run with lower radial and axial runout. This results in lower vibrations, greater concentricity and smoother running in demanding shaft bearing arrangements.
The bearing is designed for operating temperatures between -30 and +200 degrees. The standard rolling-bearing steel 100Cr6 and the dimensionally stable sheet steel cage retain their mechanical stability within this temperature range. To ensure safe operation, the selected lubricant – whether grease or oil – must also be specified for the relevant operating temperatures.
Normal bearing clearance (also referred to as CN) describes the basic clearance between the rolling elements and the raceways, as defined by the manufacturer, when no load is applied. It forms the basis for standard fits on shafts and housings. Following correct installation, this radial clearance is reduced by the press fit to the dimension required for the operating condition.
