The SKF 22234 CCK/W33 self-aligning roller bearing (170x310x86 mm) withstands heavy radial loads and compensates for shaft misalignment.
The SKF 22234 CCK/W33 self-aligning roller bearing is an open roller bearing designed for industrial applications involving very high radial forces and axial loads acting in both directions. With dimensions of 170 mm bore diameter, 310 mm outer diameter and 86 mm width, the double-row design automatically compensates for operational misalignment of the shaft. Manufactured from 100Cr6 bearing steel, the bearing features a dimensionally stable sheet steel cage. In the SKF Explorer version, the component is suitable for a temperature range of -30 to +200 degrees.
The 22234 CCK/W33 self-aligning roller bearing is suitable for bearing arrangements subject to high radial forces and combined axial loads, where misalignment may occur. Wherever static angular misalignment occurs during assembly or dynamic shaft deflection under load, the spherical outer ring raceway provides compensation. The design helps to reduce edge stresses and distributes the load across the rows of rollers. The open design allows for direct connection to the plant’s lubrication system.
The suffix ‘K’ denotes the tapered bore with a pitch ratio of 1:12. This design facilitates mounting on tapered shafts or, using suitable mounting and withdrawal sleeves, on cylindrical shafts. You can adjust the remaining radial clearance in a controlled manner during installation via the axial sliding travel. The designation W33 stands for a lubrication groove with lubrication holes on the outer ring. Together with the increased running accuracy of class P5, this design promotes low-friction operation during continuous use.
The suffix CC denotes roller-guided sheet steel cages without a central flange on the inner ring. The letter K indicates a tapered inner bore with a ratio of 1:12 for fitting with clamping or withdrawal sleeves. The abbreviation W33 denotes a circumferential lubrication groove with lubrication holes in the outer ring, allowing lubricant to be fed directly between the roller sets.
The bearing has a bore diameter of 170 mm at the tapered mount, an outside diameter of 310 mm and a width across flats of 86 mm. Thanks to these standardised dimensions, the 22234 series is suitable as a standardised machine component for replacement in existing bearing housings as well as for new designs in heavy machinery engineering.
The permissible operating temperature range is from -30 to +200 degrees. The 100Cr6 rolling bearing steel used, together with the temperature-resistant sheet steel cage, ensures dimensional stability within this temperature range. At higher operating temperatures, you simply need to take the thermal resistance of the grease or lubricating oil used into account separately.
A tapered bore with a taper ratio of 1:12 allows the bearing to be pressed onto tapered shaft journals or secured onto cylindrical shafts using a locking sleeve. Controlled mounting measurably reduces the radial bearing clearance, enabling fitters to adjust the bearing clearance very precisely during installation and achieve the desired preload.
This open bearing has no integrated seals. The W33 lubrication groove, with lubrication holes in the outer ring, is used for relubrication. The lubricant enters the bearing directly via housing connections, cooling the contact zones and protecting the raceways from premature wear.
The designation P5 indicates a tighter running tolerance for the bearing than the standard tolerance (PN). Whilst the mounting dimensions comply with the standard PN tolerance, the P5 class reduces radial and axial runout errors during operation. This contributes to low-vibration operation at higher speeds.
