The SKF 22218 E/C3 self-aligning roller bearing, measuring 90x160x40 mm and featuring increased C3 clearance, offers high load-carrying capacity in the event of misalignment.
As a double-row roller bearing, the 22218 E/C3 self-aligning roller bearing accommodates very high radial forces as well as axial forces on both sides. Thanks to the barrel-shaped rollers on the spherical outer ring raceway, the bearing automatically compensates for shaft misalignment. As an open component made from 100Cr6 roller bearing steel, it is designed for operating temperatures ranging from -30 to +200 degrees. A sturdy sheet steel cage guides the roller sets precisely and ensures smooth running during continuous operation.
This self-aligning roller bearing is used where heavy loads act on shafts and where deflection or misalignment may occur. Typical applications include mechanical drives and heavy-duty bearings subjected to high radial and axial loads. Thanks to the lubrication groove with integrated lubrication holes in the outer ring, lubricant can be fed directly into the interior of the bearing. This ensures an even supply to the contact surfaces and simplifies maintenance in industrial operations.
The version with a slightly increased radial clearance (C3) offers more operating clearance than the standard clearance. This is advantageous when temperature differences between the shaft and housing lead to thermal expansion of the inner ring. The dimensional accuracy complies with the standard tolerance PN, whilst the increased running accuracy of class P5 promotes low-vibration concentricity. This open design requires a housing construction with external sealing and regular relubrication.
This roller bearing withstands high radial and axial loads and automatically compensates for shaft misalignment. The SKF version features a lubrication groove with lubrication holes in the outer ring, a sheet steel cage and enhanced running accuracy to Class P5.
With an internal diameter of 90 mm, an external diameter of 160 mm and a width of 40 mm, the bearing requires a suitable installation space. These standardised key dimensions define the correct fit on the shaft and within the bearing housing.
C3 indicates a slightly increased radial bearing clearance compared with the standard version. This reduces the risk of the rolling elements becoming jammed if the shaft and inner ring heat up during operation, or if tight fits reduce the bearing clearance after assembly.
The permissible temperature range for 100Cr6 rolling bearing steel is between -30 and +200 degrees. This makes the bearing suitable for a wide range of temperatures in industrial applications, provided that a suitable lubricant is used.
Lubricant is fed directly between the two rows of rollers via the external circumferential groove and the lubrication holes in the outer ring. As the bearing is unsealed, the surrounding housing structure must retain the lubricant and protect it from contamination.
The dimensional accuracy in accordance with PN corresponds to the standard fit dimensions for internal and external diameters. The running accuracy in accordance with P5 has tighter tolerances, which contributes to smoother and lower-vibration operation of the shaft.
