The SKF 22218 E spherical roller bearing, measuring 90x160x40 mm, can accommodate high radial loads and compensates for misalignment through angular movement.
The 22218 E self-aligning roller bearing is an SKF rolling bearing designed for demanding industrial applications. With a bore of 90 mm, an outer diameter of 160 mm and a width of 40 mm, this bearing is suitable for heavy-duty shaft guides. Manufactured from standard 100Cr6 bearing steel in the Explorer design, the open bearing withstands temperatures from -30 to +200 degrees. The integrated lubrication groove on the outer ring facilitates continuous maintenance whilst the bearing is in operation.
This roller bearing is used wherever high radial loads occur in conjunction with shaft deflection or misalignment. Thanks to the crowned rollers and the hollow spherical raceway of the outer ring, the roller bearing self-aligns. Typical applications include heavy-duty drive trains and shaft mountings in mechanical engineering. As no seals are integrated, the surrounding housing provides protection against dirt and allows the lubricant to be selected according to requirements.
The outer ring features a lubrication groove with lubrication holes, allowing grease or lubricating oil to be applied directly between the rolling elements. This simplifies relubrication intervals during operation. Furthermore, the model is characterised by P5 running accuracy with standard dimensional accuracy PN. The tighter running tolerance contributes to smooth, low-vibration operation at high rotational speeds, whilst the sheet steel cage guides the rollers stably even during rapid load changes.
The bearing has an internal diameter of 90 mm, an external diameter of 160 mm and a total width of 40 mm. These standardised key dimensions enable it to be fitted precisely into suitable plinth housings or machine housings. Please check that the shaft and housing fits comply with these mounting dimensions before assembly.
With this combination, the external dimensions of the bearing comply with PN standard tolerances, which ensures standard interchangeability. The running accuracy, however, is manufactured to tolerance class P5. This means tighter concentricity tolerances for the inner and outer rings, which contributes to improved guidance accuracy and reduced running noise during operation.
The open bearing has a circumferential lubrication groove with holes in the outer ring. Fresh lubricant can be fed directly into the interior space between the rolling elements via this lubrication channel. Depending on the requirements, use suitable industrial oils or roller bearing greases. As no seals are fitted, the surrounding housing must protect the bearing from dirt and moisture.
The spherical roller bearing, made from standard 100Cr6 rolling bearing steel with a sheet steel cage, is designed for temperatures ranging from -30 to +200 degrees. Within this range, the material retains its dimensional stability. When selecting the lubricant, you should ensure that it is approved for the actual operating temperature encountered during use.
The version with standard bearing clearance provides the standard radial clearance between the rollers and raceways when the bearing is unmounted. This clearance compensates for operational heating and the radial expansion of the inner ring during press-fitting onto the shaft, ensuring that the bearing operates with the specified operating clearance during operation.
An open design without integrated sealing washers allows lubrication via centralised lubrication systems and the free flow of circulating oil. Design engineers tend to favour this variant in enclosed gearboxes or housings, where external seals such as shaft seals or labyrinth seals provide the seal against the external environment.
