The SKF 24136 CC/W33 spherical roller bearing, with a 180 mm bore, lubrication groove and P5 precision, offers a robust solution for heavy-duty industrial applications.
The 24136 CC/W33 self-aligning roller bearing is an open roller bearing designed for demanding mechanical environments involving high radial forces and axial loads in both directions. SKF manufactures this model from through-hardened bearing steel (100Cr6) with a bore of 180 mm, an outer diameter of 300 mm and a width of 118 mm. Thanks to its standard radial clearance and robust sheet steel cage, this double-row bearing is suitable for fixed mounting positions at operating temperatures ranging from –30 to +200 degrees.
Design engineers primarily use this self-aligning roller bearing in applications involving high combined loads and demanding mechanical requirements. The angle-adjustable roller guide proves its worth wherever shaft deflection occurs or misalignment between the shaft and housing needs to be compensated for. The open design also allows for direct connection to lubrication systems, ensuring that lubricant replacement can be carried out easily whilst the system is in operation.
The W33 design features an annular lubrication groove with lubrication holes in the outer ring. This allows grease or lubricating oil to flow evenly and directly into the interior of the rolling bearing, thereby reducing maintenance requirements. Another technical detail concerns the tolerances: whilst the dimensional accuracy corresponds to the standard PN class, the bearing has the tighter P5 tolerance class for running accuracy. This reduces runout error and ensures smooth running under high rotational demands.
The bearing has an inner diameter of 180 mm, an outer diameter of 300 mm and a total width of 118 mm. Before fitting, you should ensure that the fits on the shaft and in the housing correspond exactly to these diameters.
The designation W33 refers to a circumferential lubrication groove with lubrication holes in the outer ring of the bearing. These channels allow lubricant to be fed directly into the interior, between the rolling elements. This considerably simplifies relubrication whilst the bearing is installed and helps to ensure even distribution of the lubricant.
With this combination, the external connection dimensions – such as the bore and outer diameter – comply with the standard PN tolerance class. The internal running accuracy, such as the concentricity of the raceways, is, however, designed to the finer tolerance class P5. This reduces vibrations and radial runout during rotation and promotes smooth running.
The bearing is designed for a temperature range of -30 to +200 degrees. Manufactured from standard roller bearing steel (100Cr6) with a sheet steel cage, it retains its shape whilst withstanding thermal stresses within this range. When commissioning the bearing, ensure that the lubricant used is also approved for the operating temperature involved.
Open spherical roller bearings do not have integrated lip or cover seals. This design is recommended for assemblies that have their own sealed housing or external seals. This allows the bearing to be lubricated directly via oil or grease circulation systems and makes it easy to inspect and relubricate during maintenance work.
The model features the standard radial bearing clearance (CN). This standard value is designed to suit typical shaft and housing fits, ensuring that the necessary operating clearance between the rollers and the raceways is maintained after press-fitting. In the event of extreme temperature differences between the inner and outer rings, you should check whether increased bearing clearance is required.
