The SKF 23272 CAK/W33 self-aligning roller bearing, measuring 360 x 650 x 232 mm, with a tapered bore and a brass cage, offers high load-carrying capacity for demanding industrial applications.
The 23272 CAK/W33 self-aligning roller bearing is a double-row roller bearing designed for heavy-duty industrial applications where high radial forces and shaft deflection occur. Thanks to the spherical outer ring raceway, this design automatically compensates for misalignment between the shaft and housing. SKF manufactures the bearing from standard 100Cr6 rolling bearing steel with standard radial clearance and tolerance class P0/PN. The open design allows for targeted lubrication throughout the entire operating range from -30 to +200 degrees Celsius.
This large bearing is primarily used in large-scale industrial applications where heavy radial and axial forces are present. The double-row design reliably withstands high loads, whilst the integrated angular misalignment compensation compensates for operational misalignment of the shaft. The solid brass cage guides the roller sets stably within the bearing housing, even under severe vibrations and high mechanical stresses.
The tapered bore with a 1:12 taper facilitates mounting on tapered shaft seats or using suitable mounting and withdrawal sleeves. The remaining operating clearance can be precisely adjusted via the axial displacement travel. The W33 suffix denotes a circumferential lubrication groove with lubrication holes in the outer ring, allowing fresh lubricant to enter directly into the interior of the open bearing and aiding lubricant distribution.
This designation describes key design features of the bearing. The abbreviation CA stands for a solid, roller-guided brass cage and symmetrical rollers. The K indicates a tapered bore with a 1:12 taper ratio for mounting on tapered seats or sleeves. The designation W33 refers to a lubrication groove with lubrication holes in the outer ring to ensure uniform relubrication.
The 23272 CAK/W33 spherical roller bearing has an inner diameter of 360 mm, an outer diameter of 650 mm and a width across flats of 232 mm. These dimensions correspond to the standardised 232 series for heavy-duty bearings. Due to its dimensions and tapered bore, installation requires suitable lifting equipment and defined press-fitting procedures to ensure correct clearance control.
A tapered bore with a 1:12 ratio considerably simplifies installation and removal for heavy-duty shaft diameters of 360 mm. The bearing is mounted either directly onto a tapered shaft journal or using a mounting or withdrawal sleeve. The required reduction in radial clearance can be precisely determined and adjusted by means of the defined axial sliding fit.
The bearing, manufactured from 100Cr6 rolling-element bearing steel, is designed for operating temperatures ranging from -30 to +200 degrees. The version with a brass cage retains its dimensional stability even at elevated operating temperatures. As this is an open bearing without integrated lip seals, the choice of lubricant and external housing seals must be tailored to the actual ambient temperature.
The suffix W33 denotes a lubrication groove with lubrication holes in the outer ring. Grease or lubricating oil is fed from the outside directly into the contact zone between the two rows of rollers. This ensures even distribution of the lubricant within the rolling element chamber and facilitates continuous or interval-based relubrication as part of routine maintenance operations.
The bearing is manufactured to the standard tolerance class P0 or PN, which corresponds to class ABEC 1 in the US. This standard tolerance fully meets the usual dimensional and concentricity requirements in general mechanical engineering, gearbox manufacturing and plant engineering, and enables a process-reliable fit design for shafts and bearing housings.
