The SKF 23268 CAK/C3W33 spherical roller bearing, with a 340 mm bore, tapered bearing seat and brass cage, provides stable guidance for heavy-duty shaft mountings.
The 23268 CAK/C3W33 self-aligning roller bearing is an open roller bearing made from standard bearing steel (100Cr6) for industrial use under demanding conditions. With an outer diameter of 620 mm and a width of 224 mm, this double-row bearing can accommodate high radial forces as well as axial loads on both sides. The lubrication groove with lubrication holes in the outer ring allows for direct relubrication during operation. Thanks to its wide temperature range of -30 to +200 degrees, the bearing retains its dimensional stability even under thermal stress.
Heavy-duty industrial applications with high radial loads require robust bearings that can independently compensate for shaft deflection and misalignment. The 23268 CAK/C3W33 self-aligning roller bearing aligns itself at any angle thanks to its spherical outer ring raceway. Design engineers specifically use this design for large-scale machinery where manufacturing tolerances in the housing or elastic deformations of the shaft need to be compensated for. The solid brass cage guides the rolling elements with minimal vibration, even under high acceleration, and prevents direct contact between the rollers.
The CAK design features a tapered inner ring bore with a taper ratio of 1:12, allowing you to mount the bearing either on tapered shaft seats or using mounting and withdrawal sleeves. During mounting, the inner ring expands, thereby reducing the operating clearance. The factory-specified C3 bearing clearance class ensures that sufficient residual clearance remains in the rolling element set after radial press-fitting and under operational heating. Check the radial residual clearance during mounting using a feeler gauge in accordance with the manufacturer’s specifications to prevent seizing during operation.
The dimensions are 340 mm internal diameter, 620 mm external diameter and 224 mm overall width. The internal bore is tapered at a ratio of 1:12. The tolerances for the main dimensions correspond to tolerance class P0/PN or ABEC 1.
The designation W33 indicates a ring-shaped lubrication groove with radial lubrication holes in the outer ring of the bearing. This allows the lubricant to enter directly into the space between the two rows of rollers. This design feature simplifies the regular relubrication of the bearing seat within the housing and promotes even distribution of the lubricant.
The C3 clearance class offers greater radial clearance than the standard clearance class. In bearings with a tapered bore, this clearance is significantly reduced when the bearing is pressed onto the shaft or adapter sleeve. Furthermore, at operating temperatures of up to +200 degrees, the inner ring expands more than the outer ring, which is compensated for by the C3 clearance.
A solid brass cage is used in this bearing. Brass cages are characterised by high strength, low wear and good emergency running properties in the event of insufficient lubrication. They are particularly suitable for applications involving heavy shock loads, rapid speed changes or elevated operating temperatures, such as those encountered in heavy machinery.
The bearing is designed for a temperature range of -30 to +200 degrees. The standard 100Cr6 rolling bearing steel used, together with the open design without temperature-sensitive contact seals, enables operation under conditions of high heat generation. When selecting a lubricant, ensure that its viscosity is suitable for the respective operating temperature.
As the bearing itself does not have any integrated sealing washers, sealing is achieved via the surrounding housing structure. Labyrinth seals, vane rings or contact shaft seals on the bearing housing are commonly used. These external sealing elements prevent the ingress of solid particles and moisture, and keep the lubricant within the bearing chamber.
