The SKF 22215 EK self-aligning roller bearing, with a 75 mm tapered bore and an outer diameter of 130 mm, offers high load-carrying capacity in the event of misalignment.
The SKF 22215 EK self-aligning roller bearing is a double-row roller bearing in the Explorer series, designed for demanding industrial applications. With a bore of 75 mm, an outside diameter of 130 mm and a width of 31 mm, the roller bearing accommodates high radial loads as well as combined axial forces. Thanks to the spherical outer ring raceway, the bearing automatically compensates for misalignment and shaft deflection during operation. Manufactured from 100Cr6 bearing steel, it is suitable for a temperature range of -30 to +200 degrees.
Design engineers and maintenance technicians use this design primarily for heavy radial loads and where shaft deflection occurs. Typical applications include heavily loaded industrial drives and bearing arrangements with misalignment. Thanks to the combination of dimensional accuracy PN and restricted running accuracy P5, the bearing operates with low vibration even under high loads. As this is an open bearing without an integrated seal, the surrounding housing must be effectively sealed against dirt and moisture.
The suffix ‘K’ denotes a tapered bore with a taper ratio of 1:12. This design facilitates mounting on tapered shaft seats or, using standardised mounting and withdrawal sleeves, on smooth shafts. Users can adjust the standard radial bearing clearance to suit operating conditions by sliding the bearing onto the shaft to the specified axial position. A sheet steel cage guides the rolling elements during operation. For continuous relubrication, the outer ring features a circumferential lubrication groove and lubrication holes, through which the lubricant reaches directly between the two rows of rollers.
With an internal diameter of 75 mm at the tapered bore, an external diameter of 130 mm and a width of 31 mm, the bearing complies with standardised dimensions. The designation ‘K’ indicates a bore taper of 1:12, which is designed for mounting on adapter sleeves or tapered shafts.
This tolerance class combines dimensional accuracy in accordance with Class Normal (PN) with improved running accuracy in accordance with Class P5. The external mounting dimensions comply with the standard limit dimensions, whilst tighter tolerances apply to concentricity and parallelism, which can help to reduce vibrations during operation.
The outer ring is fitted at the factory with a circumferential lubrication groove and lubrication holes. Grease or lubricating oil can be fed directly into the interior of the rolling bearing via suitable grease nipples on the bearing housing, ensuring that the lubricant reaches both rows of rollers and the contact zones of the sheet steel cage.
Manufactured from standard roller bearing steel 100Cr6 and fitted with a sheet steel cage, this open bearing is suitable for operating temperatures ranging from -30 to +200 degrees. The chosen housing seal and the lubricant used must be suitable for the respective operating temperature.
A continuous hollow-spherical raceway runs along the outer ring, on which the spherical rollers of both rows can adjust freely. In the event of shaft deflection or misalignment between the bearing positions, the inner ring tilts together with the set of rollers in the outer ring, without causing harmful edge stresses or constraints on the raceways.
For mounting on a smooth cylindrical shaft, the spherical roller bearing is combined with a suitable locking sleeve. When the shaft nut is tightened, the inner ring slides onto the taper of the sleeve, thereby reducing the radial bearing clearance and securing the bearing to the shaft by a force fit.
