The SKF 22220 EK/C3 self-aligning roller bearing, with a 100 mm bore, 180 mm outer diameter and 46 mm width, offers high load-carrying capacity for demanding industrial applications.
The SKF 22220 EK/C3 self-aligning roller bearing is an open-type roller bearing made from standard rolling-element steel (100Cr6). The design features a tapered bore with a taper ratio of 1:12 and a sheet steel cage. A lubrication system comprising a circumferential groove and lubrication holes in the outer ring allows for relubrication whilst the bearing is in operation. The bearing is suitable for operating temperatures ranging from –30 to +200 degrees.
Design engineers primarily use this self-aligning roller bearing in bearing arrangements subject to heavy radial loads and simultaneous axial loads. Thanks to the spherical outer ring raceway, the component automatically compensates for misalignment and shaft deflection during operation. Typical areas of application include industrial applications subject to high mechanical loads. The open design allows for the selection of the appropriate lubricant – oil or grease – depending on the operating conditions.
The combination of a tapered inner ring seat and C3 bearing clearance facilitates the assembly of the bearing unit. When mounted on a tapered shaft seat or using a sleeve, the inner ring expands, thereby reducing the initial radial clearance. The increased C3 bearing clearance is designed to compensate for this increase in fit as well as for thermal expansion caused by operation. The P5 precision class ensures low-vibration operation.
This roller bearing dynamically compensates for misalignment between the inner and outer rings. It has a tapered bore with a diameter of 100 mm, an outer diameter of 180 mm and a width of 46 mm. Manufactured from 100Cr6 rolling bearing steel, it features a sheet steel cage, a lubrication groove in the outer ring and an increased clearance of C3.
The suffix denotes a design featuring a sheet steel cage (letter E) and a tapered bore with a taper ratio of 1:12 (letter K). This design allows for precise mounting on tapered shaft seats or using suitable clamping and withdrawal sleeves.
C3 denotes a larger radial clearance than the standard version. As the inner ring expands when fitted onto a tapered seat, the internal clearance is reduced. The C3 clearance helps to ensure that the required operating clearance is maintained after fitting and when the bearing is heated.
Grease or oil is directed into the bearing interior via a circumferential groove with radial lubrication holes in the outer ring. As the open bearing is supplied without integrated sealing washers, a housing seal provides protection against dirt and moisture.
The thermal design of the roller bearing covers operating temperatures ranging from -30 to +200 degrees. To ensure correct operation within this range, lubricants and the surrounding housing seals must be selected to suit the respective operating temperature.
The dimensional accuracy of the external connection dimensions complies with the standard tolerance PN, whilst the running accuracy is manufactured to the more stringent P5 precision class. This combination ensures low-vibration operation and precise guidance of the rotating components.
