The SKF 22356 CCK/C3W33 self-aligning roller bearing, with main dimensions of 280 × 580 × 175 mm, accommodates high radial and axial loads whilst the shaft is under deflection.
The SKF 22356 CCK/C3W33 self-aligning roller bearing is an open, double-row roller bearing designed for demanding heavy-duty applications in mechanical and plant engineering. With an inner diameter of 280 mm, an outer diameter of 580 mm and a width of 175 mm, this large bearing accommodates combined loads. The 100Cr6 steel material provides the rollers and raceways with high wear resistance. A sheet steel cage guides the sets of rollers evenly between the raceways. The design is rated for operating temperatures ranging from –30 to +200 degrees.
The self-aligning roller bearing compensates for static and dynamic misalignments between the inner and outer rings, thereby counteracting tilting. It is suitable for bearing arrangements where, in addition to high radial forces, alternating axial forces occur and elastic deflections of the shaft need to be accommodated. The open design allows for direct lubrication of the roller rows.
The suffix CCK denotes a tapered bore with a taper ratio of 1:12, which allows mounting on a tapered shaft seat or using a clamping or withdrawal sleeve. The designation C3 indicates that the bearing has an increased radial clearance. This accommodates thermal expansion at high operating temperatures and compensates for the reduction in bearing clearance caused by axial pressing. The W33 designation defines a circumferential lubrication groove with lubrication holes in the outer ring, which facilitates targeted lubricant supply during operation.
The bearing has a tapered bore with a nominal diameter of 280 mm, an outside diameter of 580 mm and a width across flats of 175 mm. These dimensions mean that this model is one of the large bearings in the 223 series. It is made from 100Cr6 rolling bearing steel and is manufactured as an open bearing for heavy-duty applications.
The designation CCK describes the internal design featuring symmetrical rollers and a window-type sheet steel cage, as well as a tapered inner ring bore with a taper ratio of 1:12. This taper is designed to allow mounting on a tapered shaft or a clamping sleeve. During radial clamping, the inner ring expands, allowing the operating clearance to be precisely adjusted.
The code C3 indicates that the radial bearing clearance is greater than normal. When the bearing is slid onto the tapered seat, the bearing clearance is reduced due to the elastic expansion of the inner ring. The additional bearing clearance ensures that, after installation and as the bearing heats up, sufficient clearance remains to prevent the rollers from seizing.
Feature W33 refers to a circumferential groove on the outer ring’s outer surface, combined with integrated lubrication holes. This design directs grease or lubricating oil directly between the two rows of rollers. The lubricant is distributed evenly across the running surfaces, which reduces friction and simplifies relubrication.
The permissible temperature range is from -30 to +200 degrees Celsius. The 100Cr6 rolling bearing steel and the dimensionally stable sheet steel cage retain their dimensional stability across this temperature range. As this is an open design without integrated contact seals, the only factor limiting its practical application is the choice of lubricant.
The external and connection dimensions are subject to the Normal (PN) tolerance class, which ensures compatibility with standard housing seats. The running accuracy of the rotating components complies with the tighter P5 precision class. This combination ensures ease of installation whilst delivering precise concentricity under dynamic, heavy-duty conditions.
