The SKF 23028 CCK/W33 spherical roller bearing accommodates high radial loads and reliably compensates for misalignment with a shaft diameter of 140 mm.
This double-row roller bearing is designed for demanding industrial applications involving heavy radial loads and shaft deflection. The hollow-spherical outer ring raceway allows the roller set to self-align, thereby compensating for misalignment between the shaft and housing. Manufactured from standard 100Cr6 rolling bearing steel and featuring increased running accuracy to tolerance class P5, it ensures low-vibration operation across a temperature range of -30 to +200 degrees.
The design primarily absorbs high radial forces whilst simultaneously guiding the shaft in both axial directions. Thanks to the oscillating movement of the rollers on the spherical outer ring raceway, the load-carrying capacity is maintained even in the event of elastic shaft deflections. A sheet steel cage guides the barrel-shaped rollers evenly and maintains a precise spacing between them. As an open component, the bearing requires a clean housing environment and lubrication via the lubrication holes integrated into the outer ring.
The suffix ‘K’ refers to the tapered internal bore. This design facilitates mounting on tapered shaft seats or, with the aid of suitable mounting and withdrawal sleeves, on cylindrical shafts. You can precisely adjust the operating clearance via the axial sliding travel. For lubricant supply, the outer ring features a circumferential groove with bores in accordance with the W33 standard. This allows grease or lubricating oil to flow directly between the two rows of rollers.
The suffix CC denotes window-shaped sheet steel cages for guiding the rollers. The letter K denotes a tapered bore with a taper ratio of 1:12 for sleeve mounting or tapered seats. The designation W33 indicates a lubrication groove with lubrication holes in the outer ring, which facilitates relubrication during operation.
The bearing has an internal diameter of 140 mm at the bore, an external diameter of 210 mm and a width across flats of 53 mm. As this is a tapered bore, the nominal bore size refers to the theoretically smaller diameter of the taper.
Using the inner taper, you can mount the bearing either directly onto a taper-ground shaft journal or, using a mounting sleeve or withdrawal sleeve, onto a cylindrical shaft. The radial operating clearance is reduced during controlled axial sliding onto the tapered seat, which enables precise adjustment.
Tolerance class P5 defines a tighter running accuracy than the Standard Normal (PN). This means lower run-out and axial run-out deviations in the rings. In practice, this precision results in smoother running, reduced vibrations in the drivetrain and lower heat generation at operating temperatures between -30 and +200 degrees.
Open roller bearings do not have integrated sealing discs. This design is used when sealing is provided externally by housing seals such as labyrinth rings or radial shaft seals. This allows the lubricant to be continuously replenished via the groove in the outer ring, without dirt particles becoming trapped inside the bearing.
The inner ring, the outer ring and the barrel rollers are all made from case-hardened standard roller bearing steel of the 100Cr6 grade. This material offers high resistance to fatigue under high radial loads. The two window cages fitted to guide the rollers are made from sturdy sheet steel.
