The SKF 22212 EK/C3 self-aligning roller bearing with a 60 mm bore automatically compensates for misalignment and can accommodate high radial loads.
The 22212 EK/C3 self-aligning roller bearing is a double-row roller bearing made from standard rolling-element steel (100Cr6) with main dimensions of 60x110x28 mm. It features a common hollow-spherical outer ring raceway, which allows angular movements of the shaft to be compensated for. Designed as an open bearing with a sheet steel cage and increased radial clearance (C3), it is suitable for industrial applications with demanding operating conditions and a temperature range of -30 to +200 degrees.
This rolling bearing is primarily used in bearing arrangements where shaft deflection or misalignment between the bearing positions may occur. Thanks to its barrel-shaped rollers, the bearing can accommodate high radial forces as well as axial forces acting in both directions. The lubrication groove integrated into the outer ring, complete with lubrication holes, facilitates relubrication whilst the bearing is installed, directly via the housing, thereby reducing maintenance requirements in mechanical drives.
The tapered bore, with a taper ratio of 1:12, enables secure mounting on tapered shaft seats or using suitable mounting and withdrawal sleeves. In this process, the bearing clearance is reduced when the inner ring is pushed on axially. The slightly increased factory-set radial bearing clearance (C3) serves to compensate for this loss of clearance when the fit is tight. Furthermore, sufficient operating clearance is maintained in the bearing even during thermal expansion whilst the unit is in operation.
The double-row bearing has a tapered bore of 60 mm, an outer diameter of 110 mm and a width of 28 mm. It combines an increased radial clearance (C3) with a lubrication groove and holes in the outer ring, as well as a sheet steel cage. This design automatically compensates for angular misalignment between the inner and outer rings.
The suffix ‘K’ denotes the conical bore shape with a taper ratio of 1:12. The ‘E’ refers to the standardised internal design. This design allows for direct mounting on tapered shaft journals or for mounting on cylindrical shafts using a separate clamping sleeve.
When the inner ring is slid onto a tapered seat, it expands, thereby reducing the internal radial clearance. The increased initial clearance of class C3 prevents the bearing from running too tightly after tightening or under the influence of heat, and contributes to smooth running.
The open bearing, made from standard roller bearing steel (100Cr6), is suitable for a temperature range of -30 to +200 degrees. As no elastic contact seals are fitted, the actual operating limit depends primarily on the thermal stability of the selected lubricant and the installation conditions of the respective system.
The outer ring is fitted as standard with a circumferential groove and several lubrication holes. This allows fresh lubricant to flow directly between the two rows of rollers into the bearing interior. Relubrication can thus be carried out conveniently via a lubrication device on the housing, without having to dismantle the bearing housing.
The bearing is specified with dimensional accuracy class PN in accordance with standard tolerances, as well as enhanced running accuracy in accordance with tolerance class P5. This combination provides standard mounting dimensions for the housing and shaft seat, whilst the tighter P5 running tolerance ensures precise concentricity during operation.
