The SKF 1212 EKTN9 self-aligning ball bearing with a 60 mm tapered bore compensates for misalignment with its double-row design and operates with low vibration in its polyamide cage.
The SKF 1212 EKTN9 self-aligning ball bearing is a double-row rolling bearing made from standard bearing steel (100Cr6). Thanks to the spherical outer ring raceway, the bearing automatically adjusts itself in the event of shaft misalignment. With a bore of 60 mm, an outer diameter of 110 mm and a width of 22 mm, it accommodates radial loads as well as moderate axial forces. This version has standard radial clearance and complies with tolerance class P0/PN (ABEC 1).
Design engineers primarily select this type for shaft guides where misalignment or elastic deflection occurs. The bearing dynamically compensates for angular misalignment between the inner and outer rings without causing increased edge stresses. Typical applications include long shafts and elastic support structures in mechanical engineering. Thanks to the polyamide cage, the rolling elements run quietly during both steady and fluctuating rotational movements.
The designation ‘K’ stands for the tapered bore with a ratio of 1:12. This internal geometry allows for secure mounting on tapered shaft seats or, using suitable clamping sleeves, on cylindrical shafts. During installation, the required radial clearance can be precisely adjusted via the axial travel. As this is an open bearing without an integrated seal, users can select the type of lubricant and external sealing to suit operating conditions between –30 and +120 degrees.
Two rows of balls share a common hollow-spherical raceway in the outer ring. This geometry enables the bearing to compensate for misalignment and shaft deflection during operation. Manufactured from 100Cr6 rolling-bearing steel, the bearing operates with a standard radial clearance in accordance with tolerance class P0.
The bore has a diameter of 60 mm, the external diameter is 110 mm and the width across flats is 22 mm. The bore is tapered with a standard taper ratio of 1:12.
Fitting is carried out either directly onto a suitable tapered seat or onto a cylindrical shaft using a locking sleeve. Sliding the inner ring axially into place ensures a secure fit and reduces the radial clearance to the specified dimension.
The polyamide cage guides the balls with minimal friction and dampens running noise. The material retains its shape within the permissible temperature range and is characterised by its low weight.
The permissible operating temperature range is from -30 to +120 degrees Celsius. These limits are determined by the thermal resistance of the polyamide cage and the dimensional stability of the roller bearing steel used.
The open design, which does not use sealing washers, prevents additional frictional resistance. It also enables the user to supply the bearing with grease or oil via external lubrication systems, as required for the specific operating conditions.
