The SKF 2311 double-row self-aligning ball bearing with a 55 mm bore compensates for misalignment and is suitable for demanding industrial applications.
The SKF 2311 self-aligning ball bearing is a double-row rolling bearing made from standard bearing steel (100Cr6) with a cylindrical bore. Thanks to the common spherical raceway in the outer ring, the bearing automatically adjusts itself during operation. This feature helps to compensate for shaft deflection and misalignment between the housing and the shaft by allowing angular movement. As an open component without an integrated seal, the bearing can be flexibly integrated into existing lubrication systems.
Design engineers and maintenance personnel prefer to use the 2311 self-aligning ball bearing on long shafts or flexible support structures where operational deflection may occur. Thanks to its double-row ball arrangement, the rolling bearing absorbs radial forces whilst simultaneously transmitting moderate axial forces in both directions. Typical applications are found in general mechanical and plant engineering for industrial shaft mountings where misalignment between the housing and the rotating shaft cannot be completely avoided, either due to the design or the installation process.
The version with a sheet steel cage guides the rolling elements in an orderly manner whilst maintaining a low mass. As a result, the bearing retains its dimensional stability within a temperature range of -30 to +150 degrees. As no contacting sealing washers are fitted, the component operates with low frictional resistance within the system. Users can apply grease or lubricating oil appropriate to the specific application. The manufactured tolerance class P0/PN (corresponding to ABEC 1) defines standardised mounting dimensions for direct and precise replacement.
The bearing has an internal diameter of 55 mm, an external diameter of 120 mm and a width of 43 mm. These standardised dimensions make it suitable for standard bearing seats in mechanical and plant engineering.
The outer ring has a continuous, hollow-spherical raceway for both rows of balls. The inner ring, together with the ball set, can tilt freely within this spherical surface. This compensates for misalignment between the shaft and the housing without causing residual stresses in the bearing.
The standard radial bearing clearance refers to the standard radial play of the rolling elements when the bearing is in its unassembled state. It is designed to ensure that, once the inner ring has been pressed onto the shaft and under normal operating temperatures, the bearing continues to run with low friction.
Thanks to its sheet steel cage and components made from standard roller bearing steel (100Cr6), this open bearing is suitable for temperatures ranging from -30 to +150 degrees. The actual operating range depends on the thermal stability of the lubricant used.
As an open roller bearing, it allows for the free choice of lubricant and enables its use in oil-lubricated assemblies. Protection against dust and moisture is provided by the design of the surrounding bearing housing, for example by means of sealing elements on the housing structure.
P0, or ABEC 1, refers to the standard tolerance for dimensional and running accuracy in industrial roller bearings. Components in this class meet standardised accuracy specifications and can be easily replaced with standard bearings of the same dimensions during repairs or new designs.
