The SKF 1318 K self-aligning ball bearing, measuring 90 × 190 × 43 mm, compensates for misalignment during operation thanks to its hollow-spherical outer ring raceway.
The 1318 K self-aligning ball bearing is a double-row rolling bearing manufactured by SKF for demanding industrial applications. Manufactured from standard 100Cr6 rolling bearing steel, this design features a shared spherical outer ring raceway. This design enables the two rows of balls to automatically compensate for angular misalignment and shaft deflection during operation. With an outer diameter of 190 mm and a width of 43 mm, this design offers high radial load-carrying capacity with normal radial clearance.
This double-row self-aligning ball bearing is primarily used where long shafts are prone to deflection or where misalignment occurs between bearing seats. The design primarily accommodates radial loads and ensures precise shaft guidance. The open design, without integrated seals, allows for flexible choice of lubricant. The sheet steel cage guides the rolling elements within a permissible temperature range of -30 to +150 degrees Celsius.
The suffix ‘K’ denotes the tapered bore with a standardised taper ratio of 1:12 at a nominal diameter of 90 mm. This tapered bearing seat facilitates mounting on tapered shaft journals or, in combination with suitable mounting and withdrawal sleeves, on cylindrical shafts. When fitted correctly, the bearing is slid axially onto the tapered seat, allowing the internal operating clearance to be adjusted. The bearings are manufactured to tolerance class P0/PN or ABEC 1.
Two rows of balls run in separate inner ring grooves and on a common spherical outer ring raceway. This allows the inner and outer rings to pivot relative to one another, thereby compensating for any misalignment of the shaft. This design features a tapered bore designated by the letter K, measures 90 × 190 × 43 mm and is made from 100Cr6 roller bearing steel.
The nominal bore diameter is 90 mm, the outer diameter is 190 mm and the width across flats is 43 mm. These dimensions define the size of the double-row self-aligning ball bearing. The 1:12 internal taper causes the mounting bore to taper accordingly.
The suffix ‘K’ denotes a tapered bore with a taper ratio of 1:12. Unlike cylindrical bores, this bearing is usually secured to smooth shafts using clamping or withdrawal sleeves, or mounted directly onto taper-ground shaft journals.
This roller bearing has a standard radial clearance in its standard version. When fitted onto the tapered seat, this clearance is reduced in proportion to the axial displacement. The manufacturing accuracy complies with the standard tolerance class P0/PN, also known as ABEC 1.
The combination of 100Cr6 rolling-element bearing steel and the guided steel sheet cage is designed for operating temperatures between –30 and +150 degrees Celsius. As no elastic sealing washers are fitted, the actual range of application depends largely on the thermal stability of the selected grease or oil.
Open roller bearings have neither integrated cover plates nor sealing plates. They are suitable for installation spaces where sealing is provided by the surrounding housing. This open design allows for direct supply of external lubricants and results in lower friction losses compared with sliding seals.
