Self-Aligning Ball B. FAG 2309 -TVH-C3

The FAG 2309 -TVH-C3 self-aligning ball bearing (45x100x36 mm) compensates for angular misalignment and, thanks to its C3 clearance, allows for movement when the bearing heats up.

The 2309 -TVH-C3 self-aligning ball bearing is manufactured by FAG Wälzlager and is designed as a double-row bearing. Thanks to the hollow-spherical outer ring raceway, the two rows of balls pivot as required. This enables the bearing to compensate for both static and dynamic misalignment between the inner and outer rings. Manufactured from standard rolling-element bearing steel (100Cr6) with a 45 mm cylindrical bore, this open bearing is suitable for designs with external housing seals and lubrication supply.

In which installation situations does the 2309 -TVH-C3 self-aligning ball bearing compensate for misalignment?

Design engineers and maintenance personnel use this design primarily for long shafts or flexible machine housings, where deflection and misalignment may occur. Rigid bearings would become stressed under such misalignments and be subject to increased wear. The self-aligning ball bearing absorbs radial forces and counteracts harmful edge pressures on the rolling elements. The 45 mm cylindrical bore allows direct mounting on stepped shafts in housings with a separate lubricant supply.

When are C3 bearing clearance and a polyamide cage advantageous for the 2309 -TVH-C3?

The suffix ‘C3’ indicates a slightly increased radial clearance. This increased clearance between the balls and raceways is advantageous when temperature differences arise between the shaft and housing during operation, or when tight fits cause the inner ring to expand. The dimensionally stable TVH cage, made of polyamide, guides the balls quietly and reduces the weight of the rotating components compared with solid metal designs. The permissible operating temperature range is from –30 to +120 degrees.

What are the dimensions of the 2309 -TVH-C3 self-aligning ball bearing?

The dimensions are 45 mm internal diameter, 100 mm external diameter and 36 mm width. The inner ring is supplied as standard with a cylindrical bore and is suitable for direct mounting on a compatible shaft.

What does the suffix ‘TVH’ mean in relation to this roller bearing?

The suffix TVH denotes a polyamide cage. Cages made from this thermoplastic are characterised by their low weight and operate quietly. The permissible temperature range for this component is from -30 to +120 degrees.

Why is the 2309 -TVH-C3 self-aligning ball bearing designed with a C3 clearance?

The C3 designation indicates a slightly increased radial bearing clearance compared with the standard version. This additional clearance prevents the rolling elements from becoming jammed should the shaft heat up during operation or should tight fits cause the bearing rings to deform elastically.

How is the open pendulum ball bearing lubricated?

As this roller bearing is supplied as an open version without integrated seals, the lubricant is supplied from the outside. Depending on the application, either lubricating oil or grease is used, whilst external housing seals are designed to prevent the lubricant from leaking out and dirt from entering.

Which tolerance class does this FAG bearing correspond to?

This roller bearing is manufactured to tolerance class P0/PN, which also corresponds to the ABEC 1 specification. This standard tolerance meets the usual accuracy requirements of general mechanical engineering in terms of dimensional and concentricity tolerances.
