The SKF 2312 K/C3 double-row self-aligning ball bearing, measuring 60x130x46 mm with a tapered bore and C3 radial clearance, compensates for misalignment and shaft deflection during operation.
The 2312 K/C3 self-aligning ball bearing is a double-row rolling bearing from SKF, specifically designed for bearing arrangements where misalignment or shaft deflection may occur. Thanks to the shared hollow-spherical raceway in the outer ring, the two rows of balls self-align during operation. With key dimensions of a 60 mm bore diameter, 130 mm outer diameter and 46 mm width, this open design is suitable for lubrication with grease or oil. The component, made from 100Cr6 rolling-bearing steel, operates within a temperature range of -30 to +150 degrees Celsius.
This double-row bearing is particularly suitable for designs where elastic shaft deflection or misalignment between bearing positions occurs. Typical applications include designs with larger bearing spacings or shafts where operational misalignments need to be compensated for. The sheet steel cage guides the rolling elements stably under varying operating conditions.
As this is an open bearing, the lubricant can be flexibly adapted to the specific operating environment. The component is suitable for applications that must accommodate not only radial forces but also low axial loads in both directions.
The tapered bore with a 1:12 taper allows for mounting on tapered shaft seats or on cylindrical shafts using standardised mounting and withdrawal sleeves. During assembly, the bearing is moved axially, which allows the operating clearance to be adjusted. The increased C3 radial bearing clearance compensates for thermal expansion that occurs between the inner and outer rings during operation at higher operating temperatures. This ensures that the rolling elements continue to run freely even when exposed to heat up to +150 degrees Celsius.
The bearing has an internal diameter of 60 mm, an external diameter of 130 mm and a width of 46 mm. It has a tapered bore with a taper ratio of 1:12. These dimensions correspond to tolerance class P0 (standard tolerance according to ABEC 1) and determine the installation space required within the housing.
The designation C3 indicates increased radial clearance compared with the standard CN version. This additional radial clearance counteracts any tightening of the bearing caused by heating or when it is pressed onto a mounting sleeve. It is particularly recommended where there are temperature differences between the inner and outer rings during continuous operation.
The tapered bore (marked K with a 1:12 taper) allows it to be secured onto smooth shafts using clamping or withdrawal sleeves. When slid onto the tapered seat, the radial clearance is measurably reduced. This enables maintenance engineers to check that the bearing is securely seated on the shaft without the need for thermal shrink-fitting.
As an open roller bearing without integrated sealing washers, this design requires an external housing seal to protect against dirt and moisture. Lubrication is carried out either using grease or oil, applied directly into the housing. This allows for the use of application-specific lubricants and regular relubrication intervals in accordance with the respective operating conditions.
The bearing, manufactured from standard roller bearing steel (100Cr6), is designed for temperatures ranging from -30 to +150 degrees Celsius. The integrated sheet steel cage retains its dimensional stability throughout this entire temperature range. At higher ambient temperatures, care must be taken to ensure that a lubricant suitable for the temperature is used in the housing.
Two rows of balls run in separate grooves in the inner ring, whilst the outer raceway is designed as a continuous hollow spherical surface. In the event of shaft misalignment, the inner ring and ball cages pivot outwards together within the outer ring. This mechanical compensation reduces edge pressures and helps to minimise wear caused by deflection.
