The SKF 2213 ETN9 double-row self-aligning ball bearing (65x120x31 mm) compensates for misalignment and features a lightweight polyamide cage.
The SKF 2213 ETN9 self-aligning ball bearing is a double-row rolling bearing for industrial shaft systems. Thanks to the shared hollow-ball raceway in the outer ring, the component automatically adjusts itself when shaft deflection occurs. Manufactured from standard roller bearing steel 100Cr6 in tolerance class P0 (ABEC 1), this design operates with standard radial clearance. The open design is rated for a temperature range of -30 to +120 degrees Celsius.
This rolling bearing dynamically compensates for misalignment between the inner and outer rings. Typical applications include longer shafts and elastically flexible structures where manufacturing-related misalignments or deflections occur. Thanks to two rows of balls, the bearing absorbs radial forces evenly. The geometry reduces edge pressures on the rolling elements and promotes smooth concentricity within the overall mechanical system.
The suffix ETN9 denotes a polyamide cage. This material is lightweight and dampens vibrations within an operating temperature range of -30 to +120 degrees Celsius. As this is an open bearing without sealing washers, the lubricant is supplied via the surrounding housing structure. The main dimensions are a 65 mm bore, a 120 mm outer diameter and a 31 mm width.
Self-aligning ball bearings have a common hollow spherical raceway in the outer ring, within which two rows of balls move freely. This geometry enables the inner ring, together with the ball set, to automatically compensate for angular misalignment and shaft deflection during operation. As a result, the bearing minimises the occurrence of excessive edge pressures and promotes an even load distribution internally.
With an internal diameter of 65 mm, an external diameter of 120 mm and a width of 31 mm, the bearing is mounted directly onto the cylindrical shaft. The cylindrical inner ring sits flush with the shaft. Before installation, it is advisable to check that the dimensions in the bearing housing and on the shaft seat match these nominal dimensions exactly.
The designation ETN9 indicates a polyamide cage. This material reduces the weight of the rotating cage assembly and is characterised by its elastic damping properties and smooth running. The material is designed for a temperature range of -30 to +120 degrees Celsius when used in conjunction with suitable lubricants.
Normal radial bearing clearance corresponds to the standard operating clearance defined in the standard without the supplementary ‘C’ suffix. It refers to the radial movement of the balls between the outer and inner rings prior to assembly. This standard clearance is entirely sufficient for normal fit combinations and average temperature differences between the rotating shaft and the housing wall.
Open bearings do not have any contact or slit-type sealing elements on their end faces as delivered from the factory. Protection against the ingress of dirt and the retention of lubricant must therefore be provided by external seals in the surrounding housing, for example by radial shaft seals or labyrinth systems. In addition, the bearing can be supplied directly with fresh lubricant via housing grease nipples.
The bearing is manufactured to the standard tolerance class P0 (equivalent to ABEC 1 or tolerance class Normal PN). This class specifies the permissible dimensional, geometric and running accuracies for shaft and housing fits in conventional mechanical engineering. For most industrial applications, this design provides a solid basis for achieving precise concentricity.
