The SKF 1310 ETN9 double-row self-aligning ball bearing with a 50 mm bore compensates for misalignment and features a lightweight polyamide cage.
The 1310 ETN9 self-aligning ball bearing from SKF Rolling Bearings is a double-row bearing designed to accommodate radial loads whilst allowing for shaft misalignment. Thanks to the common hollow-spherical raceway in the outer ring, the design accommodates operational deflections or misalignments between the inner and outer rings. This open roller bearing is made from standard roller bearing steel (100Cr6) with a cylindrical bore of 50 mm, an outer diameter of 110 mm and a width of 27 mm. It operates with standard radial clearance within tolerance class P0/PN or ABEC 1.
This double-row bearing is used in designs where shaft deflection or misalignment cannot be avoided due to the design. Thanks to the free adjustment of the ball rows in the outer ring, the assembly dynamically compensates for angular misalignment without causing excessive edge pressure on the rolling elements. As this is an open design, users determine the type of lubricant and relubrication intervals to suit the installation conditions. Typical applications include shaft mountings where deflection is a risk, as well as applications involving medium speeds and moderate axial loads.
The suffix ETN9 denotes a polyamide guide cage. This material reduces the moving mass of the rotating parts and ensures quiet, vibration-damped operation of the balls. The permissible temperature range extends from –30 to +120 degrees Celsius, covering thermally demanding industrial applications. When designing the assembly, ensure effective external sealing against dirt particles and moisture, as the open bearing remains unencapsulated as supplied from the factory. The standard radial bearing clearance is designed for standard fits and operating temperatures.
The bearing has an inside diameter of 50 mm, an outside diameter of 110 mm and a width across flats of 27 mm. This version features a standard inner ring with a cylindrical bore for direct mounting on a suitable shaft.
The outer ring has a single hollow spherical raceway for both rows of balls. If the shaft is misaligned, the inner ring and the ball cage pivot freely within the outer ring. As a result, the bearing continuously compensates for misalignment or elastic shaft deflection during operation, without causing additional friction or stress in the rolling element contact.
The abbreviation ETN9 refers to a polyamide cage. This material is characterised by low inertia, elastic damping properties and smooth running. It guides the rolling elements precisely at operating temperatures between –30 and +120 degrees Celsius, but requires protection against aggressive lubricant additives or extreme thermal peaks.
As an open roller bearing design, the component has neither sealing rings nor cover plates and is not pre-lubricated with grease at the factory. You can operate the bearing using either lubricating oil or a suitable roller bearing grease. The bearing housing requires an external housing seal to prevent lubricant loss and to keep out moisture or dirt particles.
The normal radial bearing clearance corresponds to the standard bearing clearance for common fit designs and typical operating temperatures. It ensures that, after the inner ring has been pressed onto the shaft and the outer ring has been fitted into the housing, sufficient clearance remains. This allows the rolling elements to move freely in the raceways without being unduly constricted.
The component can be used at operating temperatures ranging from -30 to +120 degrees Celsius. Both the standard rolling bearing steel (100Cr6) used for the rings and rolling elements and the integrated polyamide cage retain their mechanical properties and dimensional stability within this temperature range. Separate material and cage variants are required for continuous operation above these limits.
