The SKF 2201 ETN9 self-aligning ball bearing, with a 12 mm bore, automatically compensates for misalignment caused by shaft deflection during operation.
This double-row roller bearing, made from standard bearing steel (100Cr6), features two rows of balls on a common hollow-spherical outer ring raceway. Thanks to this design, the bearing is insensitive to misalignment or dynamic shaft deflection between the shaft and housing. With main dimensions of 12 mm inner diameter and 32 mm outer diameter, and a width of 14 mm, this model is suitable for compact bearing arrangements subjected primarily to radial loads.
The bearing is primarily used where shaft deflection or misalignment between two bearing positions may occur, without causing additional friction or edge pressure. Typical applications include compact shaft guides and designs with separate housings in general mechanical engineering. As an open design without an integrated seal, the bearing runs smoothly and can be flexibly lubricated with grease or oil via the housing design.
Thanks to its low mass, the polyamide cage reduces inertial forces during rapid acceleration and promotes smooth running. Furthermore, the polyamide material contributes to vibration damping during operation. In combination with the standard radial bearing clearance and the standard tolerance class P0/PN or ABEC 1, the bearing covers a wide temperature range from -30 to +120 degrees. As the bearing is of an open design, the installation environment must be clean.
A self-aligning ball bearing has a continuous hollow spherical raceway in the outer ring, on which the two rows of balls can align themselves freely. As a result, the component automatically compensates for angular misalignment between the shaft and the housing, which reduces edge pressure and keeps friction to a minimum when the shaft bends.
The roller bearing has a cylindrical bore of 12 mm, an outside diameter of 32 mm and a width of 14 mm. The inner ring is of standard design and fits onto cylindrical shaft seats.
This letter combination denotes an optimised internal design combined with a polyamide cage. This material is characterised by low friction and low inertia, and is designed for operating temperatures of up to +120 degrees.
As this is an open bearing without integrated sealing washers, it is not permanently filled with grease as standard. During installation, the bearing must be lubricated via an external grease or oil supply and protected from contamination by suitable housing seals.
The standard radial bearing clearance, when the bearing is fitted, provides sufficient radial play for typical fits and standard operating temperatures. It helps to prevent stress between the inner ring and the outer ring, provided there are no extreme temperature differences between the shaft and the housing.
The 100Cr6 roller bearing with a polyamide cage is specified for use within a temperature range of -30 to +120 degrees. Within these limits, the rings retain their dimensional stability and the cage material retains its strength, provided that the lubricant is suitable for this temperature range.
