The SKF 2212 EKTN9/C3 self-aligning ball bearing, measuring 60x110x28 mm with a tapered bore and C3 clearance, automatically compensates for misalignment in moving shaft mountings.
The SKF 2212 EKTN9/C3 double-row self-aligning ball bearing automatically compensates for misalignment and shaft deflection during operation. The shared hollow-spherical raceway in the outer ring allows the two rows of balls to adjust freely in the event of misalignment between the inner and outer rings. Manufactured from standard rolling-bearing steel 100Cr6 to tolerance class P0/PN (ABEC 1), this open rolling bearing is suitable for operating temperatures ranging from -30 to +120 degrees Celsius.
Design engineers and maintenance personnel use this design primarily for long shafts or split housings where manufacturing-related misalignments or load-induced deflections occur. Thanks to its double-row ball arrangement, the bearing absorbs radial forces and supports moderate axial loads in both directions. Typical applications include shaft mountings with elastic deformations or housing misalignment, where rigid ball bearings would suffer premature fatigue due to edge running. The open design requires a clean installation environment and a targeted external supply of lubricant.
The tapered bore with a taper ratio of 1:12 allows direct mounting on a tapered shaft seat or, using a clamping sleeve or withdrawal sleeve, on cylindrical shafts. When the inner ring is pushed onto the shaft, the radial bearing clearance is reduced. The factory-set increased bearing clearance class C3 ensures that sufficient operating clearance remains after the bearing seat has been tightened and following operational heating. The integrated polyamide cage reduces the component’s weight and promotes quiet running.
The hollow-spherical outer ring raceway enables the double-row bearing to automatically compensate for misalignment and shaft deflection. Features include a tapered bore (1:12), an increased C3 clearance and a lightweight polyamide cage.
This version has a bore diameter of 60 mm, an external diameter of 110 mm and a width of 28 mm. These dimensions apply to the open design with a tapered bore.
The letter K stands for a tapered bore with a 1:12 taper; TN9 denotes an injection-moulded polyamide cage; and C3 indicates increased radial bearing clearance. The suffix E indicates an optimised internal design.
When the inner ring is slid onto a tapered shaft seat or a clamping sleeve, the ring expands, thereby reducing the operating clearance. The increased C3 clearance accommodates this expansion and prevents unacceptable stresses during operation.
The permissible operating range is between -30 and +120 degrees Celsius. Both the standard 100Cr6 rolling bearing steel and the integrated polyamide cage are designed for use within this temperature range.
As an open design without an integrated seal, the component requires grease or lubricating oil from the housing environment. The surrounding housing seal must both retain the lubricant within the bearing and keep out contaminants.
