The SKF 2212 ETN9 double-row self-aligning ball bearing compensates for misalignment during operation and has a bore diameter of 60 mm, an outer diameter of 110 mm and a width of 28 mm.
The 2212 ETN9 self-aligning ball bearing is a double-row rolling bearing from SKF with a common hollow-spherical raceway in the outer ring. This design automatically compensates for both static and dynamic misalignment without restricting the movement of the rolling elements. Manufactured from standard roller bearing steel (100Cr6), this open bearing is suitable for applications in mechanical engineering and gearboxes where shafts are subject to elastic deflection. With standard radial clearance and tolerance class P0/PN or ABEC 1, it fits directly into standardised assemblies.
This bearing compensates for angular misalignment between the shaft and housing, which is why it is the preferred choice for long shaft runs or flexible housing designs. It accommodates radial forces as well as moderate axial loads on both sides during operation.
Typical applications include bearing arrangements with longer support spans or flexible connecting structures where operational shaft deflection occurs. Thanks to the hollow-spherical outer ring raceway, the two rows of balls adjust precisely to the position of the shaft, which prevents localised edge pressures on the raceways.
The designation ETN9 refers to a lightweight polyamide cage, which ensures smooth running with low mass. The bearing can be operated within a temperature range of -30 to +120 degrees Celsius, within which the cage retains its dimensional stability.
As this is an open bearing without integrated sealing washers, installation requires an external housing seal as well as a targeted supply of grease or oil. Before assembly, it is advisable to check that the cylindrical inner ring, with a bore diameter of 60 mm, fits the shaft correctly.
In the 2212 self-aligning ball bearing, the designation ETN9 indicates a lightweight polyamide cage. This plastic cage guides the rolling elements quietly and maintains dimensional stability. Furthermore, the low weight of the component reduces the bearing’s internal inertia during operation.
With a bore of 60 mm, an outer diameter of 110 mm and a width of 28 mm, the roller bearing has standardised dimensions. These dimensions allow for direct installation on suitable shaft seats and in compatible bearing housings.
The outer ring features a continuous raceway ground to a hollow spherical profile. If the shaft tilts due to load or assembly tolerances, the two rows of balls, together with the inner ring, pivot continuously within this ball raceway. This prevents any impermissible edge pressures from developing on the rolling elements.
The permissible operating temperature range is between -30 and +120 degrees Celsius. Both the dimensionally stable polyamide cage and the standard rolling-bearing steel (100Cr6) retain their strength within this temperature range, ensuring that the bearing operates reliably in industrial environments.
As the open bearing design does not have any integrated seals, apply grease or lubricating oil directly via the bearing housing during initial assembly. The lubricant thus reaches the rolling elements and raceways directly, but must be protected from contamination by external housing seals.
This bearing is subject to the standard radial clearance and the standard tolerance class P0/PN, which corresponds to ABEC 1. This fit accuracy meets typical requirements in general industrial and mechanical engineering applications where there are no special requirements for extreme concentricity.
