The FAG 6317 -2RSR deep groove ball bearing is a double-sealed rolling bearing with main dimensions of 85 × 180 × 41 mm, designed to withstand high radial loads in industrial plant.
The single-row deep-groove ball bearing 6317 -2RSR from FAG is primarily designed to accommodate high radial forces as well as moderate axial forces in both directions. Manufactured from standard roller bearing steel (100Cr6), the component offers dimensional stability under demanding operating conditions. With a bore of 85 mm, an outside diameter of 180 mm and a width of 41 mm, this version is suitable for heavy-duty shafts. A sheet steel cage guides the rolling elements evenly within the bearing.
Maintenance engineers and designers primarily use the 6317-2RSR deep groove ball bearing in drives and machinery exposed to high levels of contamination. Thanks to the seals that seal on both sides, the bearing is particularly suitable for environments where dirt, dust or moisture are present. The sealing lips keep foreign particles away from the raceways whilst preventing the lubricant from escaping. This helps to reduce the risk of unplanned machine breakdowns in contaminated working areas.
The seal designation 2RSR stands for abiding lip seals fitted on both sides. The 6317-2RSR deep groove ball bearing is designed for a temperature range of -20 to +100 degrees. This version features standard radial bearing clearance and complies with tolerance class P0 or ABEC 1. This combination covers standard installation scenarios where there are no extreme thermal conditions or unusual fit allowances. During assembly, no pressing force must be applied via the seal lips.
The 6317-2RSR deep-groove ball bearing has an inside diameter of 85 mm, an outside diameter of 180 mm and a width of 41 mm. The outer ring is cylindrical, with no flange or groove. These dimensions provide a wide contact surface for applications involving high radial forces.
The suffix 2RSR indicates seals fitted on both sides that make contact with the bearing surfaces. The sealing lips rest against the inner ring and keep dust, dirt particles and moisture away from the raceways. At the same time, they retain the lubricant inside the bearing.
The permissible temperature range for the 6317-2RSR deep-groove ball bearing is between -20 and +100 degrees Celsius. The upper limit is primarily determined by the sealing lips and the internal grease filling, which remain functional within this range.
This roller bearing is manufactured with standard radial clearance. The bearing clearance is therefore within the standard range for typical shaft and housing fits. Provided there are no excessive temperature differences between the inner and outer rings during operation, this clearance ensures smooth, low-vibration running.
Both the solid rings and the spherical rolling elements are made from standard 100Cr6 rolling-bearing steel. This material is characterised by high wear resistance, hardness and load-carrying capacity under cyclic loads in continuous industrial use.
A guided sheet-steel cage is used inside the deep-groove ball bearing. It keeps the rolling elements at a uniform distance apart and prevents the balls from coming into contact with one another. The sheet-steel cage withstands the usual mechanical vibrations within the permissible temperature range.
