The SKF 6318/C3 single-row deep groove ball bearing offers high radial load-carrying capacity with a 90 mm bore, a 190 mm outer diameter and C3 clearance.
The 6318/C3 deep groove ball bearing is an open, single-row radial rolling bearing from SKF designed for demanding industrial applications. It primarily accommodates radial loads, guides the shaft during operation and, thanks to its deep raceways, is also suitable for moderate axial forces in both directions. Manufactured from standard 100Cr6 rolling-bearing steel, the rings and rolling elements offer high dimensional stability. The integrated sheet steel cage guides the balls evenly and keeps friction to a minimum during operation.
This open radial deep-groove ball bearing is primarily used in industrial bearing installations subject to high loads. As the bearing is open, lubricating oil or grease from the surrounding system can reach the raceways unhindered. This design is suitable for applications where the surrounding housing is fitted with an external seal. Systems with continuous oil lubrication thus allow unhindered access of lubricant.
The version with C3 bearing clearance has greater radial clearance than the standard version. This compensates for thermal expansion caused by heating during operation, as well as for tight fits on the shaft, thereby preventing stress in the bearing. With tolerance class P0 (ABEC 1), the component meets the standardised requirements for dimensional and concentricity accuracy. This provides a thermally stable rolling bearing suitable for operating environments ranging from -20 to +150 degrees.
The main dimensions are 90 mm internal diameter (bore), 190 mm external diameter and 43 mm width. The outer ring has no flange or groove. These dimensions conform to the standard size series for single-row radial roller bearings of this size.
The suffix C3 indicates a slightly increased radial bearing clearance compared with the standard version. The radial clearance between the balls and the raceway is greater. This ensures that the bearing continues to operate smoothly even if tight fits or temperature differences reduce the bearing clearance during operation.
Open roller bearings have neither cover plates nor sealing rings. This design minimises the friction torque and allows for direct lubrication via an external system, such as an oil bath or a centralised lubrication system. This requires a protected bearing housing that keeps out dirt and moisture.
The permissible operating range is from -20 to +150 degrees Celsius. The dimensional stability of the standard roller bearing steel 100Cr6 and the robust sheet steel cage are designed to withstand this temperature range. When designing the bearing, care must be taken to ensure that the lubricant used is also suitable for the respective operating temperature.
The rolling elements and bearing rings are made from through-hardened standard roller bearing steel (100Cr6). The cage is a stamped sheet steel cage. This combination of materials ensures high mechanical strength and wear resistance in industrial applications.
The component is manufactured to tolerance class P0 (corresponding to standard tolerance PN or ABEC 1). This denotes the standardised accuracy for industrial deep-groove ball bearings, which ensures a reliable fit on standard shafts and in standard housing bores.
