The FAG 6316 deep-groove ball bearing is an open, single-row rolling bearing with main dimensions of 80 x 170 x 39 mm, designed for a wide range of industrial applications.
This 6316 deep groove ball bearing is manufactured by FAG and is designed to accommodate predominantly radial loads as well as axial loads acting in both directions. Manufactured from standard 100Cr6 bearing steel, this solid unit is characterised by dimensional stability and smooth running. With a bore of 80 mm, an outside diameter of 170 mm and a width of 39 mm, this rolling bearing fits precisely into the corresponding bearing seats. Thanks to its standard radial clearance, it is suitable for proven standard operating conditions in mechanical engineering.
The 6316 deep groove ball bearing is used wherever designs require high radial loads with moderate axial forces. Typical applications include rotating shaft assemblies in general mechanical engineering. As the bearing is designed without an integrated seal, it can be incorporated into enclosed housings where an existing oil or grease circuit provides the lubrication and protects the interior of the bearing from contamination.
The open design allows for a direct supply of lubricants from the system and reduces internal friction compared with contact-sealed variants. A robust sheet steel cage reliably maintains the spacing between the rolling elements and ensures smooth running. Designed for temperature ranges from –20 to +150 degrees, the bearing is suitable for thermally demanding operating conditions. An external housing seal must be fitted to prevent the ingress of particles and moisture.
The bearing has a bore of 80 mm, an outer diameter of 170 mm and a width of 39 mm. The outer ring has a cylindrical surface without a flange or ring groove, which allows the component to fit flush into cylindrical housing bores.
The standard radial bearing clearance, often referred to as CN, describes the clearance provided for by the design between the inner ring, outer ring and rolling elements prior to installation. It is tailored to standard shaft-to-housing fit combinations, ensuring low-vibration and thermally stable operation at normal operating temperatures.
Open roller bearings do not generate any additional frictional torque due to rubbing seal lips, making them well suited to oil- or grease-lubricated installations. The unimpeded circulation of the lubricant cools the bearing and flushes away abrasive particles. Sealing against environmental influences is achieved externally via housing covers or shaft seals.
This roller bearing is designed for an operating range between -20 and +150 degrees. Both the rings and rolling elements, made from case-hardened 100Cr6 bearing steel, and the sheet steel cage retain their dimensional stability within this temperature range. It is crucial for continuous operation that the lubricant used is matched to the actual operating temperature.
The bearing complies with tolerance class P0 or PN, which is equivalent to the international ABEC 1 classification. This standard accuracy class reliably meets common requirements in industrial plant and mechanical engineering, provided that the cylindrical bearing seats on the shaft and housing are machined to a high standard of precision.
A sturdy cage made of pressed sheet steel is fitted inside the bearing. This material combines a low weight with high mechanical strength and temperature resistance. The cage guides the single-row arrangement of balls securely within the raceways without significantly restricting the lubricant volume in the bearing chamber.
