The FAG 6217-C3 single-row deep-groove ball bearing, measuring 85 × 150 × 28 mm, offers increased bearing clearance for industrial applications subject to thermal stress.
The FAG 6217-C3 deep-groove ball bearing accommodates radial loads as well as axial guidance forces in both directions. In this open rolling bearing, the rolling elements run in deep raceways made of standard bearing steel (100Cr6) without cover plates. A sheet steel cage guides the balls evenly during operation. Thanks to its open design, the bearing is suitable for applications with external sealing and central lubrication.
Designs featuring an 85 mm shaft primarily utilise this bearing arrangement for combined loads and higher speeds. As the component has an open design, lubricant reaches the raceways unhindered, which aids heat dissipation during operation. The permissible temperature range is between –20 and +150 degrees. A prerequisite for its use is a housing that protects the bearing location from contamination and lubricant loss.
Bearing clearance C3 exceeds the standard range and specifically compensates for thermal expansion during operation. When temperature differences occur between the shaft and the housing, the inner ring expands more than the outer ring. The increased radial bearing clearance helps to prevent stress in the rolling elements. Furthermore, the C3 variant is recommended where tight press fits reduce the operating clearance after press-fitting.
With an internal diameter of 85 mm, an external diameter of 150 mm and a width of 28 mm, the component complies with standardised dimensions. These dimensions allow for direct fitting onto suitable shafts and into corresponding housing bores in mechanical and plant engineering.
The designation C3 indicates a slightly increased radial bearing clearance compared with the standard version. The additional radial clearance helps to prevent the rolling elements from becoming jammed when the shaft and bearing rings expand due to operating heat, or when tight fits reduce the internal clearance after press-fitting.
By omitting cover and sealing washers, lubricant can circulate unimpeded to the rolling elements. Designs with external seals use open roller bearings, as these have low friction losses and can be relubricated directly via external lubrication systems during maintenance work.
The permissible temperature range is between -20 and +150 degrees. The standard rolling-bearing steel 100Cr6 and the sheet steel cage retain their mechanical properties within this temperature range. The lubricant used must be selected to suit the specific operating temperature of the bearing location.
With a tolerance class of P0/PN, also known internationally as ABEC 1, the component meets the current standard for industrial drives. This manufacturing precision enables the associated bearing seats on shafts and in housings to be produced cost-effectively whilst ensuring smooth, quiet operation.
A sheet steel cage maintains a fixed spacing between the rolling elements and prevents them from coming into contact with one another. This cage design is characterised by its dimensional stability and low weight, and is suitable for use with standard mineral oil- or synthetic-based lubricants.
