The SKF 6201-2Z/C3 deep groove ball bearing combines dimensions of 12x32x10 mm with increased bearing clearance for rotating systems operating at temperatures up to 120 degrees Celsius.
This single-row deep groove ball bearing 6201 -2Z/C3 accommodates radial loads as well as axial forces in both directions. The design is part of the SKF Explorer range and is manufactured from standard 100Cr6 rolling bearing steel. Thanks to the sheet metal cover plates on both sides, the interior is protected from solid dirt particles. As the sealing elements are arranged in a non-contact manner, there is no additional frictional resistance, as is common with abiding sealing lips. The lubricant remains inside the bearing.
Design engineers use this rolling bearing when shaft bearings are operated at constant speeds and heat is generated. Typical applications include rotating machine shafts, gearbox stages and guide rollers. As the component withstands radial forces and the increased C3 bearing clearance accommodates thermal linear expansion, this design proves its worth in situations where the shaft or housing is subject to continuous heating. The cylindrical outer ring without a ring groove allows for a precise fit in smooth bores.
The internal C3 bearing clearance exceeds the standard range and prevents the rolling elements and raceways from becoming distorted due to temperature differences between the inner and outer rings. In addition, the 2Z cover plates on both sides keep solid foreign particles out without increasing friction. The integrated sheet steel cage guides the rolling elements precisely. Together with dimensional accuracy to tolerance class P6 and running accuracy P5, the bearing is designed for operation from -20 to +120 degrees Celsius.
With an internal diameter of 12 mm, an external diameter of 32 mm and a width of 10 mm, the bearing complies with standard dimensions. The outer ring is cylindrical in design and has no groove or flange, which allows it to be fitted directly into standardised housing bores.
Two cover plates made of profiled sheet steel, fitted on both sides, provide contact-free protection for the interior of the bearing. They keep out coarse dirt particles and prevent lubricant from leaking out, without reducing the bearing’s rotational speed due to frictional contact.
A radial bearing clearance (C3) that is slightly greater than the standard range compensates for the effects of tight fits or temperature differences between the inner and outer rings. This ensures that there is always sufficient radial clearance during operation to prevent the rolling elements from jamming.
The permissible operating range is from -20 to +120 degrees Celsius. Both the sheet steel cage and the rolling elements, made from 100Cr6 rolling bearing steel, are designed to withstand these thermal conditions, provided that external influences remain within the specified limits.
Dimensional accuracy complies with tolerance class P6, whilst running accuracy is manufactured to class P5. These tight manufacturing tolerances reduce runout deviations and ensure low-vibration operation of the component once fitted.
