The SKF 6201-2Z deep-groove ball bearing features compact dimensions of 12x32x10 mm, sheet metal shields on both sides and P6/P5 tolerances for demanding radial loads.
The single-row deep-groove ball bearing 6201 -2Z is a versatile rolling bearing designed primarily for radial loads. With a bore of 12 mm, an outside diameter of 32 mm and a width of 10 mm, it complies with common standard dimensions in mechanical engineering and equipment manufacturing. The bearing is manufactured by SKF in the Explorer series and is made from standard 100Cr6 rolling-element steel. A sheet steel cage guides the rolling elements evenly along the raceways. This design accommodates not only radial forces but also moderate axial forces in both directions.
This deep groove ball bearing is typically used in compact shaft mountings as well as in general drive and conveyor technology. Thanks to the contactless cover plates on both sides, the design protects the interior of the bearing from coarse dirt particles without generating additional friction. This makes the design well-suited to high-speed applications. The permissible operating temperature range is from –20 to +120 degrees, meaning the component meets standard industrial requirements.
Before installation, the environmental conditions at the respective bearing location must be checked. The suffix -2Z denotes gap seals made of sheet steel on both sides. These keep out solid particles but do not provide a seal against liquids or moisture. The bearing has standard radial clearance for typical fit conditions and moderate operating temperatures. A distinctive feature of this design is its enhanced precision: dimensional accuracy complies with tolerance class P6, whilst running accuracy is manufactured to class P5.
With an internal diameter or bore diameter of 12 mm, an external diameter of 32 mm and a width of 10 mm, the bearing complies with standardised dimensions. The outer ring is cylindrical, without a flange or ring groove. Thanks to these dimensions, the single-row deep-groove ball bearing fits into corresponding housing bores and onto suitable shaft seats.
Sheet steel cover plates fitted on both sides form non-contact gap seals with the inner ring. This means there is no additional frictional resistance, which allows for high rotational speeds. The covers protect the bearing interior and the lubricant from the ingress of dust and larger particles of dirt.
This SKF bearing has a dimensional accuracy of class P6 and a running accuracy of class P5. Compared with the standard tolerance class, the manufacturing tolerances for the bore, outer diameter and concentricity are tighter. This design contributes to improved rotational accuracy and low-vibration operation in demanding shaft-bearing arrangements.
The permissible operating temperature range for this roller bearing is between -20 and +120 degrees. This range is determined by the rolling bearing steel, the sheet steel cage and the lubricant. Within these thermal limits, the rolling elements and end plates continue to function without restriction.
The internal radial clearance between the rolling elements and raceways corresponds to the standard range, with no increased or reduced bearing clearance. The bearing clearance is dimensioned such that, with standard fits on the shaft and in the housing, no harmful jamming occurs. For standard operating temperatures, this design offers balanced running characteristics.
Both the rings and the rolling elements are made from fully hardened standard roller bearing steel 100Cr6. This material is characterised by high strength and wear resistance. The cage, which guides the row of balls, is made from pressed sheet steel, ensuring that it remains lightweight and dimensionally stable.
