With dimensions of 240 x 300 x 28 mm, the 61848 MA deep-groove ball bearing offers a very narrow design for compact large-shaft constructions in mechanical engineering.
The 61848 MA deep groove ball bearing is a single-row radial ball bearing in an open design, manufactured from standard rolling-element bearing steel (100Cr6). As a rolling bearing in the very light size series, it combines a large shaft diameter of 240 mm with an outer diameter of 300 mm and a width of 28 mm. The bearing is manufactured by SKF and features a solid, externally guided brass cage that absorbs mechanical loads under demanding operating conditions.
Design engineers choose this type for large assemblies where there is limited radial installation space. Thanks to its favourable cross-sectional ratio, the component is particularly suitable for guiding hollow shafts, rotary joints and spindles that primarily have to absorb radial forces and moderate axial forces. As it is an open bearing without integrated sealing washers, it can be integrated directly into existing oil circulation or centralised lubrication systems.
The suffix ‘MA’ denotes a solid brass cage guided on the outer ring. This external guidance effectively stabilises the rolling element guidance even at varying speeds and under high centrifugal forces. The brass material dampens vibrations and is resistant to lubricant additives. At operating temperatures ranging from –20 to +150 degrees, the bearing retains its geometric dimensional stability within tolerance class P0/PN.
The bearing has an inner diameter of 240 mm for the shaft, an outer diameter of 300 mm and a narrow overall width of 28 mm. These dimensions place it in the category of thin-walled large bearings, which have a comparatively low weight for their large diameters.
The abbreviation MA refers to a solid brass cage that is guided within the outer ring. This design ensures precise guidance of the rolling elements under dynamic torques and reduces the risk of cage breakage caused by vibrations or sudden radial loads.
The component is manufactured with standard radial bearing clearance, which complies with the standard specification. This bearing clearance is suitable for standard fit conditions on the shaft and housing, where no extreme temperature differences occur between the inner and outer rings during operation.
The permissible operating temperature range is from -20 to +150 degrees Celsius. The rings and rolling elements, made from standard 100Cr6 rolling bearing steel, together with the heat-resistant brass cage, allow for use in high-temperature machinery, provided that a suitable lubricant for this temperature range is selected.
The open design, which does not feature sealing washers, allows for direct lubrication via the housing oil or regular relubrication from the outside. Furthermore, the absence of abrasive sealing lips reduces internal friction torque to a minimum, which promotes smooth running at higher circumferential speeds.
The ball bearing complies with standard tolerance class P0 (also known as standard tolerance PN or ABEC 1). This accuracy class covers the standard dimensional and concentricity tolerances in general mechanical engineering and facilitates interchangeability during routine maintenance work.
