The SKF 609-2Z deep-groove ball bearing, measuring 9x24x7 mm, features a compact design and sheet metal end shields on both sides for protected shaft mounting.
The 609-2Z deep groove ball bearing is a single-row rolling bearing made from classic standard 100Cr6 bearing steel in SKF’s Explorer series. This version has a bore of 9 mm, an outer diameter of 24 mm and a width of 7 mm. Thanks to the integrated sheet steel cage and the standard radial clearance, this deep groove ball bearing is suitable for applications with predominantly radial loads and low axial forces.
Design engineers and maintenance technicians prefer to use this compact design for space-critical shaft mountings and small rotary drives. The bearing is protected from coarse dirt particles on both sides by non-contacting cover plates, without generating any additional friction torque. This design covers a temperature range from –20 to +120 degrees, enabling the rolling bearing to be used in many standard applications in continuous industrial operation.
This model combines dimensional accuracy in accordance with tolerance class P6 with even finer running accuracy in accordance with class P5. The tighter manufacturing tolerances reduce runout deviations and ensure low-vibration operation of the shaft. During assembly, a precisely machined bearing seat is recommended to ensure that the bearing’s guiding accuracy is fully utilised. The smooth cylindrical outer ring, without a flange or groove, also facilitates flush mounting in cylindrical housing bores.
This roller bearing has an inner diameter of 9 mm for the shaft, an outer diameter of 24 mm for the housing and a width of 7 mm. Thanks to these compact dimensions, the single-row design is used primarily in applications where space is at a premium and in small machine components.
The suffix -2Z denotes cover plates made of profiled sheet steel fitted on both sides. These plates form a non-contacting gap with the inner ring shoulder. They protect the lubricant chamber from the ingress of solid particles, whilst causing no additional friction or heat generation.
The permissible operating range is between -20 and +120 degrees Celsius. Both the 100Cr6 material and the integrated steel cage and metal end caps are designed for this range, making the model suitable for a wide range of standard industrial environments.
P6 denotes a tighter dimensional tolerance than the standard class, whilst P5 defines an even finer concentricity. This combination reduces misalignment and concentricity errors during operation, which contributes to smooth running and reduces unwanted vibrations on the shaft.
The bearing is manufactured with the standard radial bearing clearance. This factory-set clearance is intended for typical fit combinations and standard operating temperatures. It ensures that, once pressed onto the shaft and housing, the rolling elements can rotate freely without any impermissible preload.
