The 6048 -MA-C3 single-row deep groove ball bearing from FAG Wälzlager, with a 240 mm bore, solid brass cage and C3 clearance, offers high load-carrying capacity for demanding industrial applications.
The 6048 -MA-C3 deep groove ball bearing from FAG Wälzlager is an open, single-row radial ball bearing designed for heavy machinery. With key dimensions of a 240 mm bore, 360 mm outer diameter and 56 mm width, this rolling bearing is primarily designed to accommodate high radial loads as well as axial forces. Manufactured from standard rolling-bearing steel 100Cr6, the design exhibits high dimensional stability. The rolling elements are also made from standard rolling-bearing steel. Thanks to its design without a seal and without a flange or groove on the outer ring, the bearing can be flexibly integrated into existing lubrication systems.
This rolling bearing is primarily used in applications involving large shaft diameters and heavy-duty industrial drives. The design accommodates shafts with a diameter of 240 mm and withstands high radial forces whilst simultaneously handling axial loads in both directions. Thanks to its permissible temperature range of –30 to +200 degrees, the bearing retains its dimensional stability even under thermal stress. As the bearing is of an open design, the installation point requires a protective housing with an external supply of lubricating oil or grease.
The additional designation MA indicates a solid brass cage with an external guide. This solid material is characterised by high strength, dampens mechanical vibrations and stabilises the guidance of the rolling elements. The designation C3 stands for a slightly increased radial bearing clearance. The increased radial clearance compensates for thermal linear expansion at operating temperatures up to +200 degrees, as well as tight fits, to prevent the rolling elements from becoming stressed. With tolerance class P0/PN or ABEC 1, users benefit from standardised dimensional and concentricity accuracy for industrial applications.
With an internal diameter of 240 mm, an external diameter of 360 mm and a width of 56 mm, this bearing is classified as a single-row large-size bearing. The outer ring, inner ring and rolling elements are made from standard roller bearing steel 100Cr6. The design features a cylindrical bore and has no flange or groove on the outer ring.
The suffix ‘MA’ denotes a solid brass cage that is guided on the outer ring. The solid cage body offers high mechanical strength and dampens vibrations. This makes this design suitable for operating conditions involving high levels of vibration or rapidly changing loads.
The designation C3 indicates that the radial bearing clearance is greater than normal. During installation, the internal bearing clearance is reduced as a result of the rings being pressed into place, as well as due to temperature differences between the inner and outer rings during operation. The C3 clearance helps to prevent the rolling elements from becoming stressed and to compensate for thermal expansion.
The permissible temperature range extends from -30 to +200 degrees. The dimensionally stable rings, made from standard roller bearing steel, and the solid brass cage allow operation under thermal stress. To ensure proper functioning, the externally supplied lubricant – whether grease or oil – must be suited to the prevailing operating temperatures.
As the design features neither cover plates nor contact seals, lubrication is provided externally via the surrounding machine housing by means of an oil bath, oil circulation or grease supply. To prevent the ingress of dirt particles and the loss of lubricant, appropriate housing seals must be fitted at the installation point.
Manufactured to tolerance class P0/PN, also known internationally as ABEC 1, this roller bearing offers standardised dimensional and concentricity accuracy. This standard precision meets the requirements of industrial mechanical engineering and ensures a precise fit when mounting the bearing onto a shaft or into a housing bore.
