The FAG 6012 -2Z-C3 single-row deep groove ball bearing combines main dimensions of 60 × 95 × 18 mm with cover plates on both sides and increased C3 bearing clearance for shaft mountings subject to thermal stress.
The 6012 -2Z-C3 deep groove ball bearing is a single-row radial ball bearing with a 60 mm bore, 95 mm outer diameter and 18 mm width. FAG manufactures this rolling bearing from standard 100Cr6 bearing steel for combined radial and axial loads in mechanical and plant engineering. Fitted with a robust sheet steel cage and metal lip seals on both sides, the design protects the interior against coarse dirt particles. This version is suitable for operating temperatures ranging from -30 to +120 degrees.
The 6012 -2Z-C3 deep groove ball bearing is primarily designed to accommodate combined radial loads and axial forces in both directions. Thanks to its low-friction operation, the bearing drives rotating shafts at higher speeds. Compared to sliding seals, the non-contacting cover plates do not generate any additional frictional heat. This design is suitable for applications where protection against solid particles and dirt is required without the sealing effect of the seal.
The designation C3 indicates a slightly increased radial clearance compared with the standard version. This increased clearance between the balls and raceways compensates for thermal expansion when temperature differences occur between the inner and outer rings during operation. Furthermore, the radial clearance is reduced by tight press fits on the shaft or in the housing. With tolerance class P0 (ABEC 1) and the cylindrical outer ring without a flange, the bearing can be fitted into standardised housing bores.
This model has an internal diameter of 60 mm, an external diameter of 95 mm and a width of 18 mm. The cylindrical outer ring has no groove or flange, which means the roller bearing fits flush into standardised mounting bores.
The suffix 2Z denotes cover plates made of pressed sheet steel fitted on both sides. These gap covers prevent coarse dirt and swarf from entering the bearing and keep the lubricant within the raceway. As they operate without contact, they do not cause any additional frictional torque.
The C3 classification denotes a radial operating clearance that exceeds the standard level. When the shaft and inner ring heat up, the components expand, which could lead to stress if the clearance were standard. The increased bearing clearance ensures that the rolling elements can roll freely even under thermal load.
FAG specifies the permissible operating range for this component as -30 to +120 degrees Celsius. Both the rolling elements and rings made of 100Cr6 steel and the integrated sheet steel cage retain their dimensional stability and strength within this range during continuous operation.
The bearing features a guided sheet steel cage. This design is characterised by its low weight combined with high strength. The cage maintains a uniform spacing between the balls, prevents direct contact between the rolling elements and withstands the mechanical stresses of industrial operation.
The bearing is manufactured to the standard tolerance P0 (corresponding to PN or ABEC 1). This common accuracy class meets typical requirements in mechanical engineering. It enables dimensionally accurate installation in cylindrical bearing seats and in housing bores with standard tolerances.
