The FAG 6012-C3 deep-groove ball bearing, with dimensions of 60x95x18 mm and increased C3 clearance, offers reliable concentricity under thermal loads.
The 6012-C3 deep groove ball bearing is a single-row rolling bearing designed primarily for radial loads, which can also accommodate moderate axial forces in both directions. With a bore of 60 mm, an outside diameter of 95 mm and a width of 18 mm, this model is suitable for a wide range of industrial applications. The manufacturer, FAG, produces this bearing from standard roller bearing steel (100Cr6) with a robust sheet steel cage. As it is an open design, the bearing operates with low friction and can be flexibly lubricated via an external lubrication system.
This rolling bearing is typically used where rotating shafts with a diameter of 60 mm are supported and significant operating heat is generated. With a temperature range of -20 to +150 degrees, the component is designed for operating environments subject to thermal stress.
Design engineers prefer to use the open design in enclosed spaces. There, the lubricant circulating within the housing directly provides lubrication and ensures continuous heat dissipation from the bearing location.
The C3 designation indicates a slightly increased radial clearance compared with the standard version. This additional radial clearance compensates for thermal expansion when the inner and outer rings become unevenly heated during operation or when tight fits reduce the bearing clearance. This helps to prevent the rolling elements from becoming stressed and promotes smooth concentric rotation.
As open roller bearings do not have integrated protection against contamination, external seals must be incorporated into the design to prevent the ingress of dirt particles and moisture.
The C3 bearing clearance provides greater radial clearance than standard bearings. It serves to prevent the rolling elements from becoming jammed when operational heating or tight fits on the shaft and housing reduce the internal clearance. This protects the raceways from overload at higher speeds or when temperature differences occur.
This roller bearing has an internal bore of 60 mm, an external diameter of 95 mm and a width of 18 mm. The cylindrical outer ring has no groove or flange. The component is manufactured to tolerance class P0 or ABEC 1.
Open roller bearings have neither cover plates nor sealing plates. As a result, they exhibit minimal frictional torque and can be lubricated directly via lubrication circuits within the machine. The open design requires a clean housing environment as well as external seals to prevent the ingress of dirt and the loss of lubricant.
The permissible temperature range is from -20 to +150 degrees. Both the rolling elements and the rings, made from 100Cr6 rolling bearing steel, as well as the sheet steel cage, are designed for this range. The actual operating limit is determined by the lubricant used in the respective design.
A sheet steel cage guides the rolling elements at a uniform spacing and withstands mechanical stresses and vibrations. Compared with plastic cages, it can withstand operating temperatures of up to 150 degrees. At the same time, the embossed sheet metal takes up very little installation space, which benefits the lubricant flow rate within the bearing.
Single-row deep-groove ball bearings primarily support radial loads. Thanks to the deep grooves in the inner and outer rings, they also transmit axial forces in both directions. They are suitable for both fixed and loose mounting arrangements on the shaft.
